    Stop the FCC!!!!!!!

The United States House of Representatives recently passed a bill that would increase indecency fines to $500,000 per incidedent and enable th FCC to fine individual performers as well.

    From SomethingAwful.com:
"The problem with this bill is that the FCC has yet to define what is specifically indecent. This bill gives enourmous power to an organization that answers to no one, whose chairman is not elected but appointed by the President of the United States. The bill passed with a vote of 391 to 22. Don't let 391 men and women tell millions of people what they can and can't listen to."

Write your Senator and/or House Representative to let them know that you want to decide what is decent or not.

Also, visit www.stopfcc.com to sign a pettition calling for protection of our First Amendment Rights!

I don't have a problem with this so long as a judicial appeal provision is included in the bill.

CBS should have been fined MILLIONS for the Superbowl halftime show. They should have been fined even more for the Levitra ads. I didn't need my little kids hearing about a 4 hour erection or seeing Janet's boob. Trying to teach my sons the game of football on the worlds biggest stage should not involve me having to have my finger on the channel change button!

Again though as obsenity is subjective, as long as there is a jury trial option to protect broadcasters from politically based fines, then I am 100% okay with it.

If you don't want your kid watching it, don't let them. Because a few people who get offended way to easially, and don't want to take responsibility for there bad parenting, or them being morons, we have to deal with all this bull.

If you don't want to watch/listen to a certain program then change the station. Why should those that like DJ's like Howard Stern have to pay for people's ignorance? I like Howard but if you don't then change the channel. If you don't want your kids listening/watching an "inappropriate" program then take control and use the parental controls measures such as taking away the radio or locking the TV. I'm prepared to follow Howard to XM or the other Satellite radio if need be. Unfortunatly I'd have to pay money a month to hear Howard. It's a joke and shouldn't go through. The whole superbowl thing was out of hand. In fact where was this attempt during the whole Lil Kim MTV bit? That was more then a split second and her whole boob was hanging out. Then Diana Ross jiggled it. But now Janet flashes a outside of a boob with a nipple cover on and people go livid. CBS shouldn't be held accountable for those two's decision to do it. CBS did what they could to not show it. In fact I wouldn't have noticed if it wasn't on the news 20+ times that week. People over react to things like this. If you don't like the program turn it off.

Except it was not cable. Nor was it an M rated show. Without notice or warning, this was thrown in our faces. It was the superbowl for pete's sake.

I do my job as a parent. I monitor what my children watch. Are you telling me now that I can't watch footbal games with them?

As for Howard Stern, I think it is bogus that this will force him off the air. If it did, there would be serious repercussions for many elected officials. By the way, do you think Viacom/Infinity would allow one of their most lucrative shows to go quietly into the night? If so you are wrong. That is why I am fine with this law so long as a judicial check is included.

I listen to Howard every now and then, but NEVER with my kids in the car.

They are making way to big a deal about the superbowl thing. Why are people offended because they saw her breast for how long? I mean noone is going to go out and kill someone because they saw her breast for a secont. I just don't get why anyone would be upset about it.

                    You don't have kids!

I don't want to explain to my 7 and 4 year olds that the boy on TV ripping the girls shirt off was just acting. It was a family event that is why it was such a big deal. If this happened on NYPD Blue, The Shield, The Soranos, etc. no big deal. It is expected there. The problem was where it occured and the fines should be steeper then $27k each!

                      My view exactly.

I'm all in favor of this new bill. I think that ratings should be tightened, too. Used to be, in pg-13 movies you would never see stuff like sexual content or foul language more than "Damn" or "bastard". Recently, you see pg-13 movies that... well, for lack of a better term, "arent forum Friendly"...
I dont mean do away with it all. You guys can still have the sex, violence and profanity, just make it to where the kiddies cant.

It's upsetting due to the fact that people were subjected to it w/o warning. So basically people are offended cause they saw her breast and didn't want to. Now it was only a split second but she had on a pasty so it's not like you don't so a nipple. Anyways. Deadeye I see this forcing him out due to the fact that what he says is gonna cost his company a half a million dollars per word and up to 3 million a full day maximum. Now Howard himself has said that he's been fined for discussing bodily functions, such as pooping, farting etc, and that is rediculous. Infinity/Viacom have money but with stupid fines coming from that, he's not gonna be around. I personally think his show is rather tame and people are making it sound horrible. I've seen worse language, behavior on the streets and schools. Howard on friday even said a quote by GWB saying something to the effect of "cleaning up the airwaves to make a perfect society" which to me sounds like Religious haagwash. Anyways. Just my 2 cents on this issue.

Aslong as this bill, doesn't fine everyone the same amount for each violation, and has absolutely no fines for someones political remarks. I don't have a huge problem with it.

But I just hope all of these amendments, don't keep piling on top of each other and slowly but surely decrease civil liberties

Its a damn breast you spend the first how many months of your lives sucking on one. How many kids havn't seen one? How is anyone corrupted by seeing that?

And you won't have to explain to your kids why he was ripper her shirt off if you don't let your kid watch it. Newer TV's have those things where you can block certain channels, or even certain shows don't they? So limit your kids to nick, and cartoon network, or whatever else you deem suitable.

It was the superbowl though. Like Deadeye said, if it was another show like NYPD he wouldn't be letting his kids watch it. I do agree with your "boob" arguement however.
