optonline is by far the best service in the US. They are a subsidiary of Cablevision. Connecting through them actually gets you a connection that most people consider to be just as good if not better than T1. And all for the same price of that awful Comcast cable. (dont get comcast they are awful)

      I agree, OptOnline is amazing.

      I regularly get 4.5 - 9 mbps down, and 700 - 1000 kbps up.

      Yes, thats hella fast

      Its great.

I pay $40/month and I use Earthlink cable provided by Time Warner in Houston.

I get WAY more than I was promised: My download speed ranges from 2000-4000k and my upload speed is usually around 800k. Compare that to the 40k I had with "56k dialup" and I am very happy with my broadband service.

sorry to call you out dude...but i think you added a 0 onto every number there. its not possible to do 40kps on a 56kbps modem. unless you are talking about kbps...in which case i take it back.

                I am talking about kbps.

I get up to 4MB down and I have up to .8MB up.

You know when you initiate a download and the grey download box appears? Under transfer rate you see your KBps. With dialup it's usually around 5KBps (40kbps). Mine ranges from 50KBps to 525KBps- it depends on where I'm downloading from. I'll see if I can get a picture...

You never get 56kbps with a 56kbps line. There will always be several factors to prevent it from going that fast. Usually most people will get around 40kbps(5KBps) on a dialup line.
