Demo of Winamp? Its free, and the best(for audio).I think they might have come out with a premium edition that costs money but the normal Winamp always has been(and hopefully always will be) free.

For music, I choose iTunes hands down. It has all the features that I would want in a audio player.

For video, I use BS Player. This program has support for most video formats which I had trouble to get to work well with in Windows Media Player. Easy to use and looks great with skins. Has support for avi (divx and xvid), mkv, ogg and a bunch of others.

These are what I use on a daily basis and couldn't be happier.

honestly, windows doesn't have a good video player. i like mplayer, but i'm not smart enough to get it to run in windows.
