thats not the point. i dont even like trout. i just dont like control of things that have no reason to be controlled.

trouts dont kill people, foodborne disease make you sick.

It is ridiculous.

The word trout isn't insulting or derogatory. It isn't racist. It isn't offensive.

So why is it worth a kick/ban?

Because Rob doesn't like it?

Rob, you aren't even chatting for 99% of the day. Why should the chat room be run on your whim? You are an op, yes, but it isn't your personal chat room. What is someday you suddenly decide you hate tomatos? Will the word tomato be a bannable offense as well?

Who cares about what slap scripts are overused. Does it really bother you so much that you have to piss off the chat room regulars by doing something like this?

I use the chat room every day, almost all day, but if trout is banned, then you can keep banning me, because I'm sticking with it.

welcome to the world of chat bans for no reason. There needs to be some independent review of how the channel ops in #automags abuse their powers. Kicks for long periods of times for normal offenses(which usually are a 30 second bans), bans on request of other users, nepotism/favoritism needs to be looked at carefully.

EDIT: Oh did I mention, forum/chat bans simultaneously for something that happens in chat room that does not in any way violate forum rules.

I don't use the chat room, so I don't know if there are other things that are bothering you aswell. But the trout thing is stupid, annoying, and useless, and it usually just turns into people doing it back and forth.

yes, I agree that the ban of the word trout is a bit far. if the mods wanted to cut down on the slapping with the trout (an option in the IRC client.. for what reason, im sure the world may never know), they could have banned this by phrase, as opposed to the word.

what seems odd, and I will probably get this banned too, is the fact that one can mention tubgirl. a far offensive term than trout. however, I positive trout was not banned for its offensiveness. the reason for the ban, as rob explained in my viva la trout revolution, was that people were excessviely slapping eachother with the trout option. yes, this can really annoying in chat, its part of it. thats what setting +v is for. you want to punish people that use this, moderate the channel, set those who want to chat to +v, and it solves the problem.

just bring back the trout. while trout is not in my everyday vocabulary, what happens if an unsuspecting new user comes in, and decides to talk about trout fishing. then gets a 30s tempban, or worse, whatever it is up to now. how does that reflect on the IRC chat, which is a part of the forums (which are moderated quite nicely/smoothly might I add)

I will admit, that the trout revolution thread may have been a bit off-cue. it was done as a spoof/joke to all the other revolution threads. this board seems to be built (or at least theres a support brace) on different revolutions of sorts. we have the following revolutions that I know about on the board:

cocker revolution
pie revolution
das untermag revolution
bumber eater revolution
trout revolution

and im sure plenty more that I dont know of. but, lets face it.. most everytime there is something on the boards that someone doesnt like, a revolution for it pops up, and craziness ensues. aside from das untermag revolution, which of them are useful to the boards (and even so, how is das untermag revolution useful as well. granted, I like the concept of it.. ) its not my intention to get revolutions banned, nothing like that. however, if mods choose to scapegoat me in that manner, so be it. I guess what I am really trying to say.. moderate the IRC channel differently. use the moderation option in the channel, set +v to those who really have something to say other than smacking people with trout. you reall want to control it when people abuse it, -v them, then they cant send to the channel.

ok, im done now. my civil protest here is more or less finished.

personally, I don't think I've ever used the trout slap in the chat... I don't even know the /command for it...

but banning trout is just... lame... it doesn't matter how stupid you think it is, the world doesn't revolve around Rob...

why not just rebuke the "lazy" people who use it? antagonize them into using a more creative slap!
