The first 4 points can simply be answered "Its a horror movie, people are supposed to act dumb".

As for 5, they had no gas. How would they get away? Sailboats only move fast when you have the wind and know what you are doing. I doubt any of them knew how to sail, and who knows if there was any wind.

        Recent ones? Old ones?

        28 Days Later was kickass.

The original Dead movies are sweet.

Evil Dead 1 & 2. Campy, but awesome.

Resident Evil was ok, lots of guns and zombies and laser beams.

I actually like Bordello of Blood, even through it was terrible. Same thing with that vampire movie with James Woods. Sometimes terrible horror movies are good

I'll assume you know the classics already, so here's a more off-beat list.

          Dead Alive (aka Braindead)
          Bad Taste
^ These two are early Peter Jackson films. No sign of the skill that would eventually make Lord of the Rings, other than the fact both are set in and filmed in New Zealand.

Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn
          Basket Case
          Re-Animator

          As for genre specific:
Dawn of the Dead (1978) is tops for zombie flick, and possibly best all around horror flick period.

The Lost Boys, Near Dark, and Fright Night are all watchable vampire flicks. Near Dark has the best cast and acting, but will be very hard to find. Fright Night is a classic ("You're soooo cool Brewster!")

Blood/gore/SFX I would give to Day of the Dead (1985 - but otherwise a forgettable film) and Pumpkinhead. Visually, Evil Dead 2 is probably the most spectacular, particularly the steady-cam chase sequence. Another off beat, high gore film is Phantasm (1979) which might be worth a look.

T & A - Embrace of the Vampire takes the cake here, though also an otherwise terrible film.

For more conventional fare, which you probably won't have to explain as additions to your DVD collection, The Exorcist and The Omen are excellent.

Heheeh either recent or old. I actually own all of those except for the original dead series. I need to go pick those up.

Edit: I'm going to have to try to hunt down near dark and phantasm! Haven't even heard of those before. Thanks!

Lost Boys is awesome, how could I forget that.

I still maintain Monster Squad is the coolest "horror" movie ever made.

This part really aggrivated me. Sure you have to put up with stupidity, in order to enjoy, but come on! That was weak. He should have been able to make chopped meat outta those things, coming through a 2'x2' opening. Hell I would have left the door open a bit longer and had fun blasting the zombies. That was weak.

Ok, and also, what was going on when Andy displayed that last blood smeared message? Was he bitten already, but had enough sense to warn the mall people?

Why would the zombies feverishly chase down a human, only to bite them and leave them... wouldn't you expect that they'd tare into someone and eat them? What was their motivation for human flesh? Food? Zombie procreation? That didnt make sense.

OK! why did the zombies pause on the stairs when they got chased back up from the parking garage? There was a momentary stare down. Did that suggest they could reason? Was that purely dramatic? (g@y)

Just saw it last night, truely my new favourite movie, if I wasn't laughing, I was smiling . That car part at the beginning where one car is going straight up and gets t-boned by the other car at like 80 mph right into the gas station was priceless, I literally spit my soda. Ving Rames was a true badass, you don't mess with the big man with a shotgun! Chainsaws.... muahahahah, they never cease to amuse.

Overall, despite it's flaws and 'glitches', I don't think i've ever had a better time at a theatre except for the LotR trilogy.

P.S. Fat crazed woman running = the greatness! LOL!

i also liked the part when the main girl was driving away from her husband in the beginning and he was running after the car, then he noticed the dude off to the side and ran after him. bad luck i tell ya haha.

IMO...greatest part of the movie was the sewer scene. when the guy broke his legs and was being dragged double glockin the zombie bastards. pure genius!!

Anyone else remember when those guys that came with the truck, and backed up into the wall of the mall and smushed all the zombies trying to get on when they were going backwards? That's one of the reasons this movie is so great, even if you're not a person that finds gore to be funny, the way they did it in this movie will make you laugh! Was anyone else reminded a bit of 'Deep Rising' with the ending in this movie? Or was it just me?

i thot the special effects were pretty good to, like the cars hitting people and stuff was awesome.

i actually sorta liked how they kept it simple and didnt bother explaining where the zombies came from, or what their motivation was...it just left more time for coolness. i liked everything about this, lol like the part they were all just having fun in the mall. i think that andy was playing the conservative game. like if he had wasted all his ammo on half the zombies in the crowd, theres like still the other half and then hes left with nothing. the fat lady=pure entertainment.
