If the universe is always expanding, then what does it expand into?
    -Ant
nothing. a complete lack of everything. in theory.

Rods are light sensitive and cones are sensitive to color spectrum
    -MAG
that last class i took in colege that mentioned this (last year) said that this is still a theory, there holes in it, and scientists really have no idea why creatures can see colors.

these questions always seem like a waste of time to me. my brother (a philosophy major) spends all of his time debating the theories that you are the only real person, or that nothing outside your own experience exists because you havent experienced it and can only interpret it based on your other experiences. i say "why does this matter", he says "isnt how the universe really works important?", i shrug. its flight tech for me all the way. either i hit the runway or i am dead. none of this "is the runway really there?" crap.

I was just repeating what my books said this year. We spent a lot of time (too much) on this in my Color Theory class and skimmed it pretty well in Pychology. Very interesting stuff. But both of my books stated it as fact (therefore I had to to get an A on the test)and Psych had the entire human eye mapped out all the way to the brain cortext that processes vision. Now what was mentioned in my psych book was that there used to be a couple of different theories as to exaclty which colors certain cones percieved. I'm not saying you're wrong. Just tellin it how I was taught just as you were.

Looking at a blue painted wall, the wall is reflecting only the blue color, and all other colors (or colours, for our UK friends!) are absorbed. Therefore, we only see the color that is NOT absorbed by the wall, in this case, blue. How our brains interpret that blue wavelength is another story that will require many illeagle drugs for me to even WANT to understand, but I would guess that as long as we are all getting the same reflected color wavelength, and as long as our brains are all wired the same, we should see the same blue. Obviously, this doesn't take into account any problems with an individual's eyesight, such as color blindedness (?) and such. Either way, yellow and blue still make green. Pass the weed!

        * This message is in no way intended to encourage the use of illeagle substances. The author of this message does believe, however, that some people are just a whole lot more interesting when said person is messed up. Paranoid people can, and will likely remain, a great source of enjoyment for years to come "Did I just see a cop?"

joker, it depends what "color" really means. is it a certain wavelength in the visible spectrum of light, or is it the actual color that we each perceive. if X wavelength produces a blue color in my head, and i learned in school that color is called "blue", but the same wavelength causes your head to see what I would call "green", but you learned as "blue" in school, that would be the problem. we both see the color "blue", even though our brain produces different images for it.

so therefore yellow and blue may always make green on paper, but that doesnt mean much in the real world.

and there is no way (short of my jumping into your eyes) that we could ever answer this question.

Stay out of my eyes! They're hand-me-downs from my dad.

I would say that the color is the actual wavelength reflected by a surface, NOT what an individual sees. The true reflected color is the same regardless of who sees it and how they interpret the color.

Now if my interpretation of green leads me to see it differently than you would see it, but you still call it green, does that mean a Cocker really CAN'T shoot farther than other guns? (notice the subtle change in subjects. my foot hurts from kicking that last dead horse).

Speaking of stuff that doesn't make much sense, who was that philosopher who "proved" the existence of God by the fact that wax melted?

I've got a philosophy minor and public speaking major, just so I can wonder out loud.

We will never know how many licks, someone can take big licks and someone can take tiny little licks...it all depends

Actually no it wouldnt...by the time we even figured out what was truth aside from what we previously thought was correct, but was actually incorrect...everyone posting on this board will be soil again or rotting....so does it matter? Just go with the flow and believe everything you are taught now...

Hey man, I said wouldn't that suck!!! Come on, if everything we knew was wrong it would suck. What if cockers really are more accurate than mags? Then you would cower down whenever somebody comes on AO saying my cocker is better than your mag, instead of saying haha, Tom Kaye knows damn right. Now that would suck. Or that all the scientific hooha that they put into, say NASA, is just a bunch of baloney, and we coulda just like built a big stairway into space, and saved billions of dollars. See it would suck.
