X-Box LAN Party in 20 min...Need Help!

Hey all, I'm leaving to go to an X-Box LAN party in about 20 minutes, and I need help fast. In all the other preperations (geting people, getting 2 X-Boxes, getting directions, etc.), me and the other kid forgot that we don't know how to put 2 X-Boxes on a LAN!!

Does anyone here know how? We only have 2 of them, if that helps..

if you just have 2 you can get a connector that hooks dem up, besides that i dunno for sure.

PC > console

All you need is a hub or switch, just like the ones for DSL or cable. The games should pretty much do the rest by themselves.

As far as the PC > consoles... For the moment yeah the pc is a better platform for games, but give it 3 more years and you will be singing a different tune. The PC gaming market has decreased 25% year over year for the past 3 years, publishers are losing more money on PC stuff than Game Cube stuff... that's pretty bad. So you will see less and less games being published for PC, and more for the consoles.

But a lot of the fun with PC LANs is comparing your computer to the next guys. I have tons of fun showing that my OLD 600Mhz AMD can do everything another guys 2.4 Pentium 4 can do.and the look on his face when he starts skipping frames, you can't top that with consoles.

I also like that you can customize your controls and the larger keyboard layout is better for my long spindly fingers, as well as the intuitive instinct of a mouse versus a little joystick (is that what it's called).

A PC is also able to be utilized to complete work, and doesn't need a disc(now) or cartrige(ancient history) to run every program.

Like I said I'm not disputing that at the moment the PC is a better platform. What I'm saying is that because of the business end of it, your game options on the PC will be much more limited in the future, and no they are not called joysticks any more they are called control pads, you might want to get used to those to since Microsoft announced the XMA base code platform for Win PC games today.

One LAN game we calculated we had over 3 miles worth of wiring for 12 people. It was crazy.

PCs will always be the best FPS gaming platform. Say whatever you want, but a keyboard + mouse > controller. You just get more control with a mouse.

for just 2 boxes you just need a length of cat5 network cable....no switches or anything.

You just need a crossover cable. You can get them at computer hardware stores most anywhere. (not at like wal-mart though) They are wired a different way than regular eathernet cables. They are designed to hook 2 computers or xboxes or whatever DIRECTLY to eachother. Meaning plug one end in xbox1, and plug the other end in xbox2. I did it for my friend's new years party and it worked great. By the way 1 on 1 halo is alot more fun without split screen. I found myself kicking my friends arse who normally kicks mine easilly. Its so much better when the opponent cant just look on your screen and see where you are.

Ok, thanks to you guys' help we got it all set up. I've been LAN gaming with this kid for about two years with computers, but he just got the XBox a little while ago and I don't own one, so we didn't know if wed need a router or anything. We figured it out though.

Oh, btw, IMO the pc > console, and the only consoles I own are a SNES and a PS2. I been gaming on pc for years and years, w00t.

umm u need a crossover cable, we found that out when we did a halor one.
