If you do move to Texas I would suggest Austin. The amount of hot women is unbelieveable! due to the UT campus. Lots and lots of healthy people b/c exercise is very popular there. Lots of parks too. Local businness is pretty popular there aswell(mom and pop stores).

DFW is ok nothing special. Houston forget it! bad pollution and traffic. San Antonio is nice too.

austin is ok in moderation. chicks with hairy pits are hard to get used to. not to mention the place is packed full of people that try so hard to be different that they all end up the same. austin is the seattle of the south.

and yes, houston is the armpit of Texas. its better than tulsa, but is that really saying anything?

I live in East Texas, in a suburb near Tyler called Whitehouse. Here are some good points:
-All the schools are great, except a few in the old side of Tyler and Longview
                  -Fishing is great
                  -Hunting is great
-Very beautiful in spring and fall
-We have warm winters, and hot summers
-If your into cars, Huntsville drag strip is about 30 minutes away
-There are a bunch of off roading trails
                  -Lots of shooting ranges
                  -Crime is pretty low
-Roads are in great condition all around except when you get into the boondocks
-We love football, baseball, soccer, volleyball, heck about any sport has a good program in it in school

                  Bad points
-No fields near Tyler except Longview paintball, its just better to make the hour and half drive to Forney or Fort paintball in Dallas
-There is absolutely nothing fun to do here if your a teenager
-Small drug problem(mostly shrooms, meth and weed which has been found growing wild in some parts of East Texas because people want to make some money and forgot about it)
*Imagine a big flashy creative sig pic that either involves a cartoon, paintball player, some stupid internet movement or symbol with my name creatively tied into it because I'm too lazy to make one and if you don't like it, get over it!*

Look we may have a few haunted houses but we solve all our problems with guns. If a person drives a truck, they probably have a 12 gauge or a 30/30 in the back. If your scared of them, join the fun and get a gun.

could someone tell me how it is up there in Chicago, Illinois, or any place near it, I kind of want to move (when i move out) to a city like a small version of New york, without the humitity, main reason i don't like los angeles and the areas around here is the smog and heat, I love snow and cold weather, hmm mabye i'll have to switch to my canadian side of my family and go to Canada, that is quite a small percent of canadian though, only my grandfather, no one else, but hey it still counts, wait, am I actually bragging about it?

Texas - Its a whole other country. I think thats the motto they are throwing around right now. It pretty much true. You can find anything you want in Texas. We have forests so thick you can't see the trees. We have grasslands. We have the hill country. Mountains and deserts you name it we have it. You have East Texas, South Texas, Central Texas, North Texas, West Texas, and the Panhandle.

East Texas - You have Trees, and more trees.
                            - Ocassionally Hurricane.
                            - You have Houston, pretty much the arm pit of Texas as mentioned before. Mainly because it also the most concentrated area of people in Texas. Its a port city. So you have everything that goes with that. UofH is a decent college. There is alot to do. NASA is based in Houston if your into that kinda stuff. Just your typical big city. The biggest change from Cali (Have family in Bakersfield)is the humidity, 100% most of the time. The surrounding areas are nice (Subburbs..) just crowded. Imagine LA traffic but its going 70+ mph.

South Texas - You have San Antonio, Corpus Christi, and South Padre Island (You know of "Girls Gone Wild" fame. Lots of open grass lands, not too many trees.
San Antonio, if you like the whole Hispanic culture thing, its a very nice place. The river walk is awesome, good food etc. Sea World is there. The Alamo and a whole lot of Texas history is tied to this town.
Corpus Christi and South Padre are you typical warm water coastal tourist trap type places. See above note about girls. Just gotta watch out for the Jelly Fish. Its something to see a 20+ foot Man of war washed up dead on the beach.

Central Texas - You have Austin and the hill country. Very pretty place to live. Laid back town. Gots some decent music etc...

North Texas - Scrubland, lots of little trees and bushes, mixed in with your red clay.
                            - South end of Tornado Alley :)
                            - You have the DFW area. (I live here) I like it. I live in south Ft. Worth which is a really nice area. Fort Worth is a Big Hick town pretty much. Laid back people and friendly attitude. Anything you want to do is nearby and you don't have to deal with Dallas traffic. (Not as bad as Houston) Dallas is one of the fastest growing cities in Texas. Great food and music, good schools. Lots of stuff to do. If your an up and coming band DFW is the place to be. Good underground music scene. Typical big city stuff, just everything is s p r e a d out. Depending on what you are into you can find it here. Great place for travel with DFW airport being a HUB.

West Texas - Ummm hmmmmmm pretty much the typical picture you see of Texas in all the movies. Deserts and moutain type terrain. El Paso, San Angelo, and Abilene are here. You have Bend Bend national park. (Moutains) Home of one the steepest grade roads in the US.

Panhandle - Pretty much cattle country, but then most of Texas is. :) Amarrillo the only city to speak of. Only place in Texas to see snow regularly.

Weather can be anywhere from 110 in the shade to down in the single digits. Typical week in DFW this winter. 60s, 40s, 60s, Snow, 70s, 60s, 80s, Ice Storm, etc.. If you don't like the weather in Texas, wait 5 minutes. From very Humid in the south and east part of texas to very dry in West. (Red Dust Storms are cool.)

Women: If you like indepedant, friendly women in tight jeans, then this is the place to be. :)

Ghosts?? Hmmm I know there is quite a few places that are suppose to be haunted. Including one of the best places to get Catfish in Texas, down in Waxahachie. Just go to google and type in "Texas Ghost".

Guns: The whole gun thing is a little over stated. If you live out in country side, they are pretty common household item. In the city not so much so. (Typical City). Very Gun friendly state thou. We do have CHLs (Concealed Handgun Licenses) which just about anyone can get. Makes for a nice and polite state, but the typical person you meet on the street is not going to be packing.

We have the death penalty, but very strong self defense beliefs, like most cops around here will tell ya. If you shoot someone stealing on your property, make sure they are completly inside the home before you shoot them or at least make sure you drag the body inside before you call the police. :)

All in all, I have live in most parts of Texas for the last 30 years or so...(born here) and I wouldn't live anywhere else. 1 out of every 12 people in the U.S. ethier was born in Texas or lives here.
