It shouldn't take a friggin minute to do the math on my ID to check if I'm 18 or not o0.

Was buying smokes for a freind of mine.. when I get back into the car and was about to comment on how long it took her to check it, she's like "Yea I know.. I remember last time I was here. It took her even longer to do the math on Seth's ID."

Bad_dog, did you go to one school your entire life? Because usually people go to more than one school.... just playin man, yeah, gas station workers are idiots. One time, the car wash tried to maul our car, and we got the lady working there at the time to come out and fix it. She told us that she didn't tell it to attack our car. :)

Not in Jersey they aren't. We import all of our gas jockieys from India, Pakistan, and Bangledesh. I am not sure if they dropped out at home though!

Offshoring call centers blows. If you have to offshore them, send them to Canada, Australia, or the UK. At least they speak English!!!!!

I used to work at a gas station
$8 an hour off the books, great hours, lots of free time doing nothing, probably the only time I ever studided was at work :)

That happened to my dad's car. It took off a fender and put a scratch down his car. The guy who owned the place said he would pay for it until he saw the bill. Then my dad sewed him, SHAZAM.

I agree with shartley, you shouldn't be so hard on people who take their time checking IDs. When I worked at my father's carry-out, I spent a good 30 seconds or more going over a customer's ID.

I'm checking everything to make certain it's not a phony or a loner ID from an older brother or sister (very common) - height, weight, eye and hair color, holograms, not to mention having to discern from the issue date, expiry date, and birth date.

If you don't like it, well tough cookies - it's the law. I'm not spending the night in jail, risking my job (or in my case my father's liquor and cigarette licenses and therefore his job), because I didn't take my time and do my job correctly.

I completely understand taking your time to check to see if someone is 21, but not 18.

I'm gonna go in over my head is I say any more, because in the end, your probably right and it's just my arrogance argueing.

ok for the time being i am workin in a convenience store/gas station thats sells beer.... (last factory job that i was at for 8 years was sold to another company and they downsized all the departments)

if i'm caught selling cigs to a minor its a $300 fine and my job and where i work that fine would come out of my last check... for the beer side... i belive the fine is higher and with the same results....

also as far as the education level goes where i work... we are all at least HS grads.... when i was workin 2nd shift i worked with a guy that was/is a history teacher who has taught all over the US and also in Japan and Germany... the other is attending UMass for his balchers degree...

and i hate to say it... even though i get along with those to... they take the longest doing the math or learning any price/procedure changes we have.... they are book smart with very little common sense.... where as the rest of us there have no problem...

now what i love doing is when a group of people come in, look at the beer or talk among themselves about money/who is buying and what not (same go for cigs) and the underage and/or one with out id leave and they bring their stuff upto the counter and i ask for everyones id including the ids of the people that went back out their car.... and they try to give me a hard time about it..... with excuses like "oh they're not with us... they forgot their ids... etc etc... and i just take their stuff put it on the floor on my side of the counter and say thats nice it'll be here when you get back... and i then goto the next person in line... if they keep tring to buy i point to the cameras above and behind them at the counter, the ones above my head and explain to them its all on camera, they usally shut up and leave at that point.... now the smart ones leave all their underage friends either at home or in the car cause they have figured out that if they step foot in the store i'm carding them.... even if only 1 of them heads towards the beer and the others are all at the other side of the store getting soda or snacks....

sence i started working there i have confiscated 15 fake/altered IDs... 3 of which were from what were regular customers that would buy beer (2 were 19, 1 was 20)... i pointed out to my coworkers how they altered them and all IDs were turned into the police station and i told them they could pick them up there... then again spending 3 months helpin on the door of a blues bar you see lots of IDs, weather they are passports, driver/state IDs, millitary... once you see enough of them lookin for what shows they are real and knowing what to look for that shows they were altered... if the id is from a state i haven't seen in a while it takes about 20 sec to go over it....

now my all time fav for IDs are the NY state ones... all i do for the most part is check the DOB, EXP, look for fuzzy letters/numbers (good sign if it is altered), picture and then my fav parts... bend it in half and feel the bent section..... it should like good toilet paper... at least that is how i describe the feeling... if it dont feel right then i take a closer look....

now as far as money goes.... i'm making $10.50/hr where i'm at... the other gas stations in the area and places like ratmacs, bk, wallyword etc... at most are only payin $8 if your lucky
