Mach 7 and soon a try for 10!

Wow Mach 7 and possibly 10 in not too long. WOW WOW WOW and the jet engine has no moving parts like turbines.

the ramjet and scramjet design have actually been around for some time. and it doesnt exactly scoop up oxygen. This type of engine only operates at very high speed. It needs the speed to compress the air, whereas "normal" jet engines uses a turbine to compress the air.

mach 7 is fast for any plane, but the x-15 hit mach 6.7 in 1967, but it was rocket powered. meh, I love airplanes.

            edit:
"The previous world speed record for an atmospheric engine was set by an SR-71 Blackbird spy plane, which flew at Mach 3.2.

An experimental X-15 plane flew at Mach 6.7, but with a rocket engine. "

maybe I shoulda read the whole article...

MMmmm scramjet missles. Sorry I'm an engineer hoping to go into the weapons industry. Think about it, the sound of the explosion would proceed the sound of the missle.

Of course that's what the government wants the public to think it is. I'm pretty sure it's a whole lot faster than that.

As bleachit stated these engines have been around for a while. So why did we take/wait this long to to test this?

this was a newer x-plane and we really didnt have a need/desire for them in the past, I guess.

Ramjets and scramjets are awsome. Shoot a tube through the air at mach whatever, throw some fuel in there and ignite it, and boom.

Things that go fast and make loud noises are cool.

I couldnt agree with your more. *remembers such fine airshow moments as B-1B flying 500 mph @ 500ft.
