You're a danger to yourself and others. Please re-evaluate your driving habits.Originally posted by 1stdeadeye
I got nailed 3 weeks ago doing 65 in a 45 with no seat belt while on a cell phone.
Keeping it on topic, here in Illinois if you are allowed to take Traffic Safety School, the incident is not kept on your record. I've gone three times and the only time my insurance rates have ever changed has been the result of life events (moving, getting older, no claims, etc.). We can even take the class over the web, which takes about two hours.Comment

i got nailed about 2 years ago now doing 47 in a 30. i went to court went in the little private room and just said hi... really didnt even say anything and he lowered my ticket from 175$ and 4 points to 75$ and 2 points so i was happy havent got a ticket since.
but yeah just by showing up to the court thing your almost garunteed to get your ticket reduced money wise and point wiset33kyboy "So if a cat is dropped from 11 inches, it will most likely die."Comment

I have been in 1 accident in my 15+ years of driving. I was hit by a drunk driver when I was 16. Otherwise a perfect record. So

I heard the statistics where 3% or 13% (forgot which one) of the people who get speeding tickets fight them and 50% of those people who do fight them get it reduced or taken away completely. I say fight it!

What happend to being a man and accepting the consequences for our actions?????????Comment

i accept my actions. I'll stand up to whatever punishment a judge and DA believe I need. If they feel I deserve the full fine and insurance points, so be it. If they feel I should receive some lienency because it is my first offense, then they can do that too. I'm not trying to dodge responsiblity...that would be not showing up in court. I'm trying to use the law to help me as much as possible.Originally posted by ks064

It was early that morning, maybe the cop was a little drousy and miss read the gun thing. Maybe he was aiming at the wrong car due to the time. If you can prove that there is any chance the officer is wrong the judge is supposed to drop the charges.Originally posted by deathstalker
On what grounds?
Check everything the officer wrote down. If he wrote ANYTHING down wrong you win. For instance if he wrote your name wrong or put the color of your car down incorrectly you win.
My brother got pulled over for 33 in a 30 and the officer spelled his name down wrong and had other wrong information. (I dont know the specifics) If the cop can't even copy his name from his drivers information to the ticket then what means the cop couldnt of miss read the gun. (that was just an example)
It is very easy to avoid tickets or at least get them reduced.
As for talking to the DA, I didn't have luck with that when I got mine. My grandmother had died literally 5 minutes before I got the ticket and I was just trying to get home. The DA said I should of pulled over and had someone take me home.
What ever you do good luck. I'm just telling you information from my ticket and the information I've gotten from my moms friend who has had many traffic tickets and has gotten out of most of them.

maybe I was a little harsh the first time, but you would be suprised how far a little honesty can get you. Its just a traffice infraction. You're worring far to much. When you go to court admitt the offense to the officer - you'll be suprised how far a honesty goes these days.Comment

Untrue, nomatter what anyone says or how it should be if it is your word against a cop, the judge will side with the cop. Its as simple as that. If you go in there trying to get off on some technicality like him spelling your name wrong its just going to get you a bigger fine. You really need a lawyer if you want to pull somthing like that.

I am telling you that in Texas (in may not be this way in other states) if the officer does not show up in court the ticket is immediatly dismissed because the judge has notihng to go from except what the officer wrote.
If the officer spells your name wrong they also let you off.
Again maybe that is just Texas.
