Any tips for a phone interview?

I've got a phone interview for a summer job on Thursday. I've never had a phone interview before, so I was wondering if anyone had any pointers. I'd prefer if I could get a real interview, but oh well. I can do the phone interview in my underwear though, so thats cool.

Don't talk on the phone like you would to a friend and try not to um and ah too much and avoid slang as much as you can. Make sure you get the name of the person and remember to use it. Telephone interviews are easy enough just be polite and don't over talk, same as a real interview really. Make sure you have questions ready, all written down and try not to sound as if you are going down a list.
You don't say what the job is but things like working hours, breaks, holidays, uniform/safety gear, how close it is to transport links, will you be working alone or part of a team, do you have sales/production targets, Overtime rates things like that. The last one people do like to hear as they are wanting people to work for longer than they advertise, same as any employer really
    Good luck.

Make sure to get rid of background noises (i.e. t.v., radio, ect.) Also have some paper and pen ready to write down any important info.

...avoid them if you can.... By that I mean if you are given the choice.... take the face to face every time. You get a chance to impress and dress... plus sometimes a Employer will use that choice to wieght somethings about you. If the job is a up front dealing with people sort of things that demands confidence he will use the "Choice" of an interview method to weed out people who don't "Want" to meet face to face.

This may not be applicable here in your situation but I throw that out there in case someone else ever runs into it. Always face the challenge in person if you can and.... dress for success!

Treat the phone interview EXACTLY like a face to face interview.

Get all dressed up and make all the same preparations. It'll put you in the right frame of mind.

i know this sounds silly but smile all the while you are talking. this makes your voice sound better, even if it is a forced smile.
