Well you are taking Intels top cpu and comparing it to AMDs top cpu. Thats all great, except both cost over 3x what the original poster is looking at. Its like saying all Chevys sucks because Ford's $400,000 car is faster than Chevy's $400,00 car.

AMD and Intel go back and forth on who is fastest in the at-any-price catagory.

Find some comparisons between the $299 AMD 64 3200+ and the $320 P4 3.2ghz (or any other two chips in this guys price range). I have no idea which is faster, and I wouldn't care if it was all tested on 32bit machines, but at least those would be remotely relevant to this conversation.

You do that. Want a screenshot if SiSoft, CPUID, 3D Mark 01, and Future Mark 03? I'll even take a picture of the bios where it says that its running at 4GHz if you want. There is a reason that cooler cost $500+, it keeps the CPU under 30 degrees CELCIUS. It could probably take more of an overclock, but we thought that was enough for now.

This is for the anti AMD crowd.
Heat dissapation: Its ture that the older amd chips (thunderbird mostly), produced a lot of heat. But thats not ture with the barton, thorton, and thuroughbred cores. They run much cooler than their predicessors. My brothers cpu (2600+ barton) runs at 38 celcius full load. But thats with a watercooling setup.

Cost: usually a lot less than intel at the same (relative) speed.

Speed: usually arround its intel counterpart. The speed ratings eg. 2500+ are accurate, it is comparable to a 2.5 ghz intel p4.

What I will not say is that one processor is better than the other, in some cases they are, but not most.

i wanna see prime95 running it for ATLEAST 24 hours, thats the only true cpu test there is, sisoft, cpuid are crap, and 3d mark and future mark dont test speed and stability, they do a total system test.

also, a 3dmark 2k1 score of 21k is garbage, i hit higher than that on my 2500+ barton core and 9800xt

if you show me prime 95 running it for atleast a day stable at those speeds, then i will apologize and call you and your friend the man, but until then, i call shananigans.

Thats fine, I don't know if he'll run it for 24 hours (c-mon a guy needs to game), but I'll get him to run it for at least 12.

I just got back from his house. He's currently running it at 4.1 GHz, vcore of 1.65v, CPU is at -32C to -29C under load. I'll post pics soon. He has dialup... no broadband in his area, not anything worth mentioning anyways.

it will run windows xp pro
i am going to network this with my applemac G5 sharing monitor, printer, speakers and internet connection

do any of you guys know what i will need to do this

the speakers are USB ( harmon/kardon soundstics 2 )
the printer is USB ( epson stylus CX6400 )
the network is airport but can be changed
the monitor is a apple pro 17"

can you lot tell me what else i need to buy

im not saying its not possible, i know its possible. whats hard to achieve and close to not possible is having it run totally stable, thats why you need to run prime 95 test for a long time. but like i said, prove me wrong, and i will be impressed

The price of that stupid intel extreme is so rediculous it makes me sick. Its more economical to buy a complete alienware at alienware.com if your guna buy all that crap......Athlon 64's are better then current intel processors.

For gaming the A643400+ is the best for the price. For fastest get the FX-51(2.2ghz) or FX-53(it was released-2.4ghz).
and for those reviews from maximum pc, they are BS.

My friends name is Aaron, he doesn't go to any forums that I know of. He has 56k right now (it will change soon). I was just amazed that he got it to run at 4.1GHz, and it does seem very stable. I've never seen it crash, but I'm still waiting for his prime95 log.

Devildog - I have a hard time believing your 3D Mark 2001 score. My computer 2600+, 512 DDR, 9800 Pro, gets ~16000 in 3DM 2001 and ~5500 in Future Mark 03.

and I get 20,000 in 3DMark'01, and 6595 in '03

I have seen that people are getting 4Ghz from thier P4 Extreme Editions. It is possible. Heck, intel showed with the basic P4 at a conference once that they got 4Ghz from the old core. The new Prescott cores are incredible.


Dump that HD in your system too, get a pair of 10k rpm 74Gig Raptors. mmmmm SATA RAID goodness.


And get CAS2 latency Corsair XMS memory, CAS3 = kaa kaa


Or wait for the next line of MB's in the summer and get PCI Express. Thats going to be amazing.

-2 74 gig 10k rpm raptors in raid 0

-thermalright slk 948u heatsink with 92mm fan for cooling.

i just built it, havent pushed it yet, still breaking it in.
