Anyone know how to catch minnows?

I have a wire funnel trap, and a pond and a stream full of minnows, but I don't know exactly how to set the trap.

Roll a piece of bread up and pack it tight then wire it into the trap.(twist-tie or whatever you have)

You just puy bait in the trap. they swim in the funnel ends of it and cannot figure out how to get back out.

Suitable bait is dependent on the minnow. A cake of Soybean meal from your feed and seed store will get most of them. Just break off a hunk and set it in there lose.

Check it twice a day. Otherwise turtles will get there and try to eat the minnows and tear up your trap doing so.

Just use a cast net. It's so much quicker and easier. Mix up some anise oil, instant oatmeal, and little bits of sardines or canned mackeral in a bucket until it's about the consistency of play-dough. The throw it into a pool/eddie/or slackwater area and water until the minnows go after it(which they will). Then throw your cast net into the oil slick(or wherever the fish are) and WAMMO, 30 minnows in 30 seconds. Repeat. That's how I catch bait for both fresh and saltwater.

They're actually to feed to my pet shovelhead. (~4" long)

When I use live bait for sportfishing I am using bluegills for catfishing and catch them from an overstocked farm pond with a cane pole.

I actually have a cast net too I forgot about that, but I'm looking for pretty small minnows.

                  Youll need:

                  1.beer
                  2.steak
                  3.apple pie
                  4.baseball bat

Every day for a week, drop a beer, a steak and a slice of apple pie in the stream.
On the eighth day just drop a beer and a steak in the stream
When the minnow surfaces and says "Hey wheres my pie??", hit him over the head with the bat.

also you need to remember that you are SUPPOSED to catch the minnows in the same body of water that you are going to use them in. a lot of "minnows" can actually be problem fish i.e. carp

so if you catch them from one infested place and use them in another there is a chance you could infect the other place.

or you could just buy them

Slide a whole Mossbunker in that Killie trap and come back in the morning. Are these Saltwater Killies or Freshwater?
