Really it's all personal opinion in most cases anyway. On top of that,I'm coming from a sportbike point of view,it's really hard to argue cruiser performance when none of them match up with sport bike performance as they are all detuned and focused on other points,(except the Harleys......that's pretty much all the HP they got.)

Very true. They all set up for grunt and low torue not geared at all to do the sport bike thing mainly. Different thing all together. However I thought Harley made one sort of sport bike hybrid now? Not a pure one but still a different machine than a cruiser... and I know the V rod is sort of out there in its own little world.

        Well you have the Buells.

Based on a Harley motor and now basically bought and owned by Harley. But unfortunately still pricey and w/ performance right around that of a 600c rice rocket.

And that's right, the V rod,IMO $30K Yamaha Vmax rip off with a german designed,R&D'd and built motor which some how becomes a Harley w/ the right stickers and ad campaign.

But hey, what ever floats your boat.I have nothing against the cruiser crowd if thats what you like.....it' all 2 wheels and a motor,we gots to all stick together.

Actually, I believe the V-rod has come down in price significantly. I do kinda like it. It took guts for them to release it. It's the first innovative thing they've done in what, 50 years?

Harley can't make a decent production engine on their own.

I think it looks nice. And its innovative. But its little flaws are enough to get a Honda or Yamaha any day for a lot less money. Its still pricey. And it remains to be seen if it will retain its value like other Harleys do.

It probably won't hold it's value cause the hard core riders don't like anything new. I love the looks of the 2001 Shadow Spirit 750.

But I'd really love an '04 Confederate Hellcat!!!!!

One of my coworkers has a V rod. He really likes it. But he does tell me that the Harley guys all look at it but tell him immediately "that ain't no harley".

I am seriously talking to this guy about buying this bike. What you guys think?

Its a 2000 custom done V Star all decked out with every bit of chrome you can add and notice the bullet turns and all. All that is custom aftermarket stuff. With barely over 7K miles on it. Supposedly mint and unscratched. Custom paint not Yamaha stuff. 650cc V twin shaft drive and all things working on it.

cphilips, those cruisers are the soo comfortable, unlike sport bikes. Ride all day with a cruiser but sport bike. 30 mins for me. Maybe my posture isnt right, but jeez its not as comfortable as you think ls6

I think they're great little bikes.(even tho not that little )Solid engine, stable chassis and definately comfortable. Not a great highway bike but that's to be expected. Also they were pretty reasonably priced new and now used, you should be able to have it for under 4K.If that's what your looking for, this one sounds like it could be good deal.I don't put alot of stock in aftermarket upgrades(other than they're nice if you like them) as they ultimatly add little to the overall value of the bike, adjust accordingly.

This guy wants $4500 for this one. Its NADA retail without any of the upgrades is about that money... I think. But this one does have a lot of extras and a custom paint job.

So I was thinking that was fair. Not a steal or nuttin but.. well reasonable.

Tell me all about it Data! How do the specs compare on this one to that money.

Here is a list of extras on it

                          CHROME FOOT BOARDS
                          VANCE & HINES EXHAUSTS
                          CHROME GEAR SHIFT CONTROL
WILLIE & MAX SEAT AND BAGS
                          Chrome Covers/Accessories
                          Chrome Hardware
                          Custom Paint Job
                          Sissy Bar
                          Windshield

                            CHROME FOOT BOARDS = 125
                            VANCE & HINES EXHAUSTS = 375
CHROME GEAR SHIFT CONTROL = 75
WILLIE & MAX SEAT AND BAGS = 350
                            Chrome Covers/Accessories = ?? no detail
                            Chrome Hardware =?
                            Custom Paint Job = 500-700
                            Sissy Bar = 150
                            Windshield = 200

you did forget the engine guard that is on the bike= 175

so you have 1700 - 2000 in extras on the bike.

at least around here used ones go for around 3000 stock.

so its not a bad deal, but just on the outside of being resonable.

as for the bike i have loved it, just under-powered but i bought it that way to keep my self out of trouble. even thou im adding 33% more HP back into it

item for item it is what i think is the best middle weight cruzer there is.

it is the same frame as the 1100, not a downsized ver like some of the other bikes.

mono rear shock, shaft drive, front disc break(most mid cruzers dont have) larger gas tank. all features that most mids dont have.

i have found it to quite cumfey on long rides. but from stock i have to adjuest the rear shock. so if you get it, and it feels slushie in the back end, pop the seat and tighten the rear shock.

                            well thats enuff for now.

Yea forgot the Engine guard. Most important part. Also notice he has changed all the turn indicators out to small bullets? Nice touch. the bags and seats alone are extra nice as well. He has done every single additional Chrome added trim peice you can do. And the tail light is also not stock. Its a tombstone style one.

yea its about all you would pay. But also consider what the paint job is worth then I figured it was worth it. Just barely. But likely worth it. And 7K is low mileage.

And yes I did want just under power that would keep me out of trouble. Might also let the kid ride it so anything bigger would be dangerous. But I hear there is just enough engine to keep you out of trouble too. Enough to accelerate out of danger. After looking at all the others this one and the ACE from Honda sure looked like the two best options but this one has a few details like the smaller engine and larger tank.

But if I could find a stock one for 3K I might do that. But then I would end up spending close to or over that $1500 on it anyway! Right? So why not just get it all and be done with it? And I do think he has done something to the carb. Maybe jet or something. Not much but something he mentioned. I need to ask him that.

I read somewhere that this is a rebore and refit of the older Virago 535 engine. And that engine had great reliability. And all the bottom end is the same I think. So cranks and all should be easy to find. I think the bore and stroke is longer and bigger is all.
