So I have decided that I want to go into the paintball business as my career, I want to be either a sales rep or a techie type person that also plays on a team at top am or low pro level. I am very good mechanically give me enough time and the right tools and I can fix about anything. I am also very good with talking to people, I have good charisma. So heres my question what should i be? I really have a passion for playinbg the sport and the so it seems logical to go into the field for a carreer so that they understand i need to be gone on weekends etc. so any input? also, I need to know what degree(s) i should get to be suited for the job. thanks guys for your help.

tom will tell you 1000 times over: if you love the game, for your own sake, dont get in the business.
and its damn good advice. If you want to play, about the worst think you can do is get involved. You'll be come sick of it with all the corporate crap that goes on. I've experienced it as a field owner, and its terrible on my end, I can only imagine what it is like at a real pb place.
my advice, along with a lotta other people's here: don't do it. Find something else. Paintball is a bad directionComment

I used to think that I wanted to work in the paintball industry. The whole paintball industry is pretty small compared to most other industries. At least, that is the impression I get. I dont think many paintball companies are looking to hire young kids right out of college. I'd say your best bet would be to get a job at a local field and try to make connections to people in the industry. I really dont know much about what it means to be a sales rep, so I'm just thinking about the techie sort of job here.
Not to discourage you or anything, but I dont think the 'techie type person' would really be a career. Now, to be an 'engineer type person', the guy who designs the guns, that might be one. Companies can hire any mechanically inclined kid to go around and fix their guns.
If you really want a career, and not just a job in paintball, you'll have to be some sort of engineer, or a management person. I dont know anything about management. But, for engineering, the guns are pretty much all mechanical. There is a little bit of electrical in there, but it's really very simple. All in all, I'd say, if you want a real career as a techie type person working with paintball guns, get a degree in mechanical engineering, or manufacturing.
Also, you might consider opening your own field. That's probably the easiest way to stick to paintball, and make money. Go for a management degree if your thinking of that.
Pretty much everything I just said has no real proof or anything. I'm just going by the impression I get. I hope I can just give you some ideas to think about, or at least spark a discussion and someone that actually knows what they are talking about will help out.Comment
