First time a Police officer dies while on duty in my towhship...

Very hard to imagine since I live in a quiet suburb where the cops would mostly be called for minor accidents, or direct traffic at the supermarket during thanksgiving.

My mom had it all wrong when she told me about this, she came home after her morning walk and said that a police officer was "shot and killed" on dreshertown road. I was like wtf? there is no way that would actually happen in this area, this place would be swarming with cops because we live right next to that road. Kinda sad though since the cops in this township aren't jerks.

Friends of mine who are officers in the township were hospitalized in the past 2 years from drunk drivers. One was on a routine stop and was standing between his cruiser and the car he had pulled over when a drunk driver hit his car and pinned him between the two. It crushed one of his legs, he spent a good three months laid up.
The second was hit head on, he suffered major injuries and is no longer able to serve on the force. Luckily both recovered.

But they are not just like everyone else, they put themselves in harms way to protect everyone else.

The story is all too weird, I went to sleep about the time the accident happened. Roads weren't icy or wet, the unmarked suburban was brand new last year, and to top it off the body was found a few feet outside of the car.
Then again there is the deer sign and there really are deer that try to cross that road, so he could of been trying to avoid a deer, but how the heck does his body get ejected out of the car that far?

Tons of things could have gone wrong even with a new car. A tire could have come off, the brakes or steering could have failed. He could have hit a pothole, been trying to avoid a person or a deer, fallen asleep (its late, so theres a good chance of that), he could have been drunk or high (wouldn't be the first time a cop was driving around drunk). As for being away from the vehicle, if he wasn't wearing he seatbelt it was a simple matter of him being thrown from the car. If he was, or wasn't ejected from the car, then he may have gotten out on his own, and only made it a few feet before death/unconsousness. Perhaps someone stopped to help, took him out, and when they realized he was dead they got scared and left.
