    Careful with your eyes....

I just about put my eye out at work this past Monday.I hit myself in the eye with the end of a fiberglass "glow rod".I suffered a deep corneal abrasion and damaged my Iris , leading to Iritis(swelling inside the eye).
In the five years I have been working here there has not been such an accident, in fact not within the history of the company. We just have become large enough that we must follow OSHA guidelines concerning the use of safety glasses for drilling and such.Hopefully this accident will not come under their attention.....
I have not been able to watch TV,read,go outside, or go online(cheated a little on that one) all week.It has been very possibly the dullest week of my existance.Laid up in bed with broken bones is nothing compared to temporary blindness. This condition has me out of work for at least two weeks.I may not be able to play paintball for weeks maybe months.
I still can only see shapes and colors with my right eye.Everything is blurred much like a bad stigmatism. The doctor has released me to start using the eye as long as its not uncomfortable.I cannot wear a patch ,to keep the risk of infection down.Using the eye leads to a stomping headache within a few minutes. Its also my dominant eye , so I cannot aim

Just a note to you all.If you are ever in ANY situation that your eye could possibly get hit/something in it, wear safety glasses. It is not worth the pain, discomfort or inconveniance. If you wonder , turn off all the lights in your house.Lay in the dark doing nothing visual or physical for a week.Three days in and you almost pray for death.......

I poked myself in the eye damn good with a fire poker once. I agree. Stuff like that isn't fun. We take our eyes and ears for granted but once they're gone it's terrible.

    Shhh...I have a....cocker...

I wear scott MX goggle all the time when I'm doing lots of work. Drilling, dremeling, weedeating, hammering-yes even hammering. Looks goofy, yeah, but they don't come off, you have a better field of vision, and stuff can't sneak in the edges.

              ok, ummmm.....

              The damage is already done.

To prevent: Maybe hold the springs a little bit further out and not below the nose. Duct tape the nostrils. Shove some cotton up there. Uhhh, I can't think of anything else. Oh yea, for the current spring, get a big dental pick. Shove it up there, and latch onto the spring. Then pull down. Just be sure not to grab the brain

Obviously the spring went a little farther up then you expected .
