    What is wrong with people?

I do alot of help out stuff with my church and today a few of our youth group and alot of the knights of columbus(group of old people who do alot of charity work and stuff for the churches) all went over to Southbury at 8 in the morning to do the "mini olympics". This is where we go to a mentaly/physically diabled campus thing and we have sports and games set up and we help the disabled play them and give them ribbons and stuff for winning(and we have different ribbons for every place so no one would feel bad). Also, the Southbury boyscout troop was helping out there too, and i found out my principle is a scout leader .
Well the knights and other people have been helping out at this once a year for 25 years and it was my first time. And alot of the Knights members were talking about the disabled people that live at the campus and i learned that most of the people that are living there and being taken care of have been given up on by their families. Their families have just put them in this home to live the rest of their lives. What is really bad about it is that they never come to visit them or aknowledge their existance. They are just left there and are never spoken to again, they haven't seen anyone from their family in years. One of the guys remembers from last year that one disabled person asked if he knew who his dad was and he did so the disabled person said that next time he sees him could he tell him that his son said hi.
I couldn't help but thinking, "what the hell is wrong with people nowadays??" They think it is ok to just give away your kid when he's old enough(they were all in their 20's-50's) and never talk or see them again just because they're disabled and you're too lazy to take care of them again or you don't want people to know about it because it might make you look bad or maybe even just don't want to spend the money to take care of their child. They make me sick and should be ashamed of themselves.
I applaud the people who made it their full time job to stay with these people, try to understand them and take care of them as long as they live.
Oh and not all of them have been rejected, some still are visited all the time but most aren't.
What do you think about this? It makes me really angry and sad for them.

Oh and the Governor announced that hes making May 1st Knights of Columbus of Monroe day in CT.

Perhaps it is better for them.

If their parents are so ready to get rid of them, let them. They probably have a better life now. I mean honestly, having parents who are eager to dump you, that would be the worst. Maybe they are luckier this way, with people who actually care for them.

Sometimes people can do pretty stupid things.

hey, i had a friend who was a part of that when i lived in old lyme (i lived with my uncle in that big brown house that is near the florence griswald place...you know near where easter used to be)

he said it was rewarding, but sad to see all those people dumped outta there homes...

i just kinda reminds me of when my sister came out...there were relitives who just kinda stayed away from here...

my parents were eager to dump me when i was outta highschool...i had to get to stay with my uncle then...and it was strange being kicked outta your own home...though i will never know how it feels to be metally disabled...i will still act retarded

Some people just arn't qualified or cannot afford to care for somene like that. My grandfather had to go to a nursing home because he could no longer take care of himself. As an example, one night he fell down and couldn't get up. His wife just gave him a blanket and left him there untill the next day. She didn't call my father because she didn't want to bother him at night.

Then I guess the nursing home wasn't the best place for him either. He had a heart attack and they just told him to go lay down. Then he died a few hours later because they didn't get him a docter. They also stole a gold pocket watch his father gave him.

If your kid needs someone there to take care of him all day, and the money cannot be spared for a parent to stay home all day, then what other choice is there? I'm sure alot of the people there have parents or relatives that wish they didn't have to live there, but have no choice.

          ya..sorry to double post

but out in clinton connecticut, my aunt and uncle live with a mentally disbled child...

my uncle is a great carpenter, and my aunt is a teching aid at the classes that her daughter (the mentally disabled one) goes to

she seems to have a tough time with her. she last week had to go to the hospital cause she fell down the stairs...they watch as best as they can, but its hard to do that..my aunt never did anything wrong while pregnant os dont blame her...

they were thinking of ending her to a place like that and they would visit her daily...but it would be easier for them to keep her
