    Any Chemistry freaks out there??

So here's the deal. For an extra creidit Chemistry project i have to take a list of stuff, and find examples of the item listed. So i come to AO to help me find all of my items on my "scavenger hunt" Certain things are found within other things, but the item i am looking for MUST be an active ingredient in that thing. I have done a few (the ones that i knew off the top of my head), and they have their examples already included. So here's the list of items!

    1. Dilute acetic acid---Vinegar
    2. sodium hydrogen carbonate---baking soda
    3. an acid-base indicator---cabbage juice
    4. a magnesium salt(this is one of those that can be in something else, but the magnesium salt must be an active ingredient)---
    5. iron oxide---rusty nail
    6. SiO2 (silicon dioxide)---Sand, glass?
    7. an electrochemical cell---battery
    8. a noble gas--- a balloon filled with helium
    9. a solution--salt water
    10. a colloid---milk
    11. something to lower the freezing point of water---rock salt
    12. a substance with a density less than the density of water---oil
    13. a solution with a pH greater than 7---ammonia
    14. a salt produced when magnesium hydroxide reacts with sulfuric acid (must be active ingredient!)
    15. sodium chloride---table salt
    16. a metalloid
    17. the element whose atoms contain 3 electrons in the third energy level--aluminum
    18. the element with an atomic number of 6----carbon dust, pencil lead?
    19. CaCO3---Chalk, eggshell
    20. a label from a bottle of acetylsalicylic acid---asprin
    21. a substance containing any ionic fluoride ---toothpaste?
    22. an alloy of elements #29 and #30----some peice of brass
    23. a metal whose 2+ ions form blue aqueous solutions---copper??
    24. an element famous for great conductivity and malleability---copper

There, thats all of them! So if anybody could help me out here by telling me what those are, what things have those in them, or where i could find that stuff....that'd be greeeeat.

    Thanks!,
    JC

    #7 - battery
    #9 - Salt Water
    #10 - Whole Milk (I Think, not 100%)
    #11 - Rock Salt
    #13 - Ammonia
    #21 - Toothpaste?
    #23 - Copper?

Those are a few i knew off the top of my head without too much thought, might want to make sure of them thought, I dont guarentee correctness.

I think a colloid is a suspension of solid particles in a liquid, or something along those lines. So I don't think butter works.

Of course, all this can be solved by someone gathering the energy to look up "colloid"

yeah, you're right on the colloid thing. I do believe milk is considered a colloid. So is muddy water. I don't know which i am gonna use, probably muddy water because that doesn't spoil (and i have to take a sample into my teacher)

Thanks for the help so far. any more??

            11. mix with alcohol?...
            12. vegtable oil/oil in general
            16. a metalliod can be found around the blue line (stair shaped) on the periodic table...
            17. aluminum (duh lol)
            18. just carbon (carbon creates huge chains cause it can triple bond)
            23. magnesium, nickel, chromium, zinc, ferrous (im just guessing)
            Alias Intimidator (Black)
            DiRtY PiCs... ;)

            I throw bombs...well not really...

I hate to be that guy, but spending fifteen minutes with Google would yield all of the answers you need.

That said, here's a couple off the top of my head.

              6. Sand/Glass
              11. Salt
              12. Cork
              17. Aluminum
              20. Aspirin

                      6. SiO2 (silicone dioxide)I think this one may be in those little packets that come in some things that like absorb water to keep it dry, but I'm not sure.
                      7. an electrochemical cell Battery
                      9. a solution Salt water
                      10. a colloid I think milk is a colloid
                      11. something to lower the freezing point of water Salt
                      12. a substance with a density less than the density of water Air
                      13. a solution with a pH greater than 7 Ammonia
                      16. a metalloidI think silicon is a metalloid, without a table on me I can't remember. Silicon is in transistors, which is in almost any electronic device.
                      18. the element with an atomic number of 6----carbon dust? Diamonds or pencil lead
                      23. a metal whose 2+ ions form blue aqueous solutions I think this is lead but I'm not sure.

Which ones do you need? Oh BTW in my above post, the little water absorbing packets are silica gel, not silicon (btw it's silicon, not silicone, just lettin ya know) dioxide. I think that is glass or sand. Also the thing that turns blue- I think it's copper, not lead. My bad. Let us know what else you need so we dont have to sift through the posts.

Milk probably is a colloid, but ice cream is definitely a colloid
