So here's the deal. For an extra creidit Chemistry project i have to take a list of stuff, and find examples of the item listed. So i come to AO to help me find all of my items on my "scavenger hunt"
Certain things are found within other things, but the item i am looking for MUST be an active ingredient in that thing. I have done a few (the ones that i knew off the top of my head), and they have their examples already included. So here's the list of items!
1. Dilute acetic acid---Vinegar
2. sodium hydrogen carbonate---baking soda
3. an acid-base indicator---cabbage juice
4. a magnesium salt(this is one of those that can be in something else, but the magnesium salt must be an active ingredient)---
5. iron oxide---rusty nail
6. SiO2 (silicon dioxide)---Sand, glass?
7. an electrochemical cell---battery
8. a noble gas--- a balloon filled with helium
9. a solution--salt water
10. a colloid---milk
11. something to lower the freezing point of water---rock salt
12. a substance with a density less than the density of water---oil
13. a solution with a pH greater than 7---ammonia
14. a salt produced when magnesium hydroxide reacts with sulfuric acid (must be active ingredient!)
15. sodium chloride---table salt
16. a metalloid
17. the element whose atoms contain 3 electrons in the third energy level--aluminum
18. the element with an atomic number of 6----carbon dust, pencil lead?
19. CaCO3---Chalk, eggshell
20. a label from a bottle of acetylsalicylic acid---asprin
21. a substance containing any ionic fluoride ---toothpaste?
22. an alloy of elements #29 and #30----some peice of brass
23. a metal whose 2+ ions form blue aqueous solutions---copper??
24. an element famous for great conductivity and malleability---copper
There, thats all of them!
So if anybody could help me out here by telling me what those are, what things have those in them, or where i could find that stuff....that'd be greeeeat.
Thanks!,
JC
