    Cornstarch and water is a shear thickening liquid. When the cornstarch and water is sheared by vibration it thickens to a much more viscous solution.

    Try it at home. Mix a pasty mixture of cornstarch and water in a cup and push through it slowly with your finger... EASY. Now try to push through it really fast... not so easy.

    Ita actually the basis of some liquid body armor that miscue posted a while back . SLow movements like daily soilderly activtes are easy... now when a bullet comes flying at the solution at 3000 fps its not so easy to get through.

                        my wife makes this stuff for her daycare kids with cornstarch. its a bowl of liquid but you can squeeze it into balls with your hand. when you release pressure it returns to a liquid like state. its pretty slick and the kids just dont know what to think.
