last time igave blood, i was high and no one realized it (this was in the early 90s) and i freaked out sayin i saw that less than 0 crud and i aint no pop jockey...

i am now just allowed back to give blood...but they are freaked out by me

I am an organ donor...I can care less what they do to me when I am dead. I hate needles...I willl say this again, HATE needles. I not scared of many things...hell I am not even afraid of dying...but needles...NO WAY

I have had teeth pulled without any kind of novicane (sp?), I have had stitches without any kind of numbing agent. This is how scared of needles I am. Hell, I can't even watch someone getting a shot...in person or on TV. I sure as hell hope I never become diabetic...

yeah, ive given blood twice now.. as many as possible since i turned 17 about 7 months ago. i plan to do it routinely for the rest of my life. there is no greater way of giving of yourself to help someone else. plus, give blood is a kickin' bane album.

So, you let them poke you with a big thick curved needle however many times, but you wouldent let them numb the pain. anything wron with that statement?

I donate every time I possibly can... unless for some reason im out of town. Them vampires at the blood bank really seem to like my O- blood!

as for stiches and needles... they dont bother me. I used to be a first responder when I was in highschool and we had to practice giving IV's all the friggin time. This is the same reason I can never donate with my left arm anymore... collapsed it years ago. As for stiches I have self applyed about 40% of the sutures that I have ever had. So yeah I aint skerred

I do but I am a bit disinchanted with the way our blood is used to make money. I hate the cost of blood that hospitals charge for it when they obtain it. By the time you and I give it till the time its actually given it somehow goes up to like $140 a unit. Now I know it costs money to take, type clean and store.... but I have heard estimates that its like less than 50 bucks to do all of that. So the rest is profit that someone is making. Where is it going? think about it. Give blood anyway but the next time they offer you crackers and cookies after it... fill your pockets with them!

The worst was the deal they had going with people who donated there skin (once they died of course) thinking it was going to burn victoms and such, then it was sold to be used for cosmetic surgery. Somthing like $25,000 for every person who donated they said.

People find it odd and I guess it is. But the sewing needles for stiches do not bother me. It's the look of the needle, how far it goes it, etc... I get kinda freaked just seeing a needle laying there. I have a very good friend who is diabetic, she learned real quick that if she needs to take insulin to let me know so I can leave the room:) But hey, with my fear, I'll never become a heroin junkie:)

Nobody will let me give plasma (which sucks cause they pay you for it) because I spent time in England during the whole mad cow scare in the 80's.

I never asked, but I assume it'd be the same answer for giving blood...
