good video editing software...???

I recently bought a nice new shiney video cammera and would like to upload vids to my comp and net. The wife and i are expecting soon.....very soon, next monday!!

so the relatives across the country want to see vids.

My computer has s-video in capabilities, plus my camera can do firewire and USB 1 cable transfer. But that still leaves me with the problem of needing a video software that i can cut and clip movies together and such. I have a nice PC with XP. I don't need nothin super fancy, just a decent to upload vids and such.

Try photoshop go to adobe.com and look for it. If that doesnt work do a google search it works great for me.

I think you are a bit confused there. He said VIDEO editing software. You may look into Adobe Premiere which is a great little program to start off with. It's what I've been using for quite a while works great for what I need. If you get really serious look into Avid. Thats what the pros use. Good luck!

yea adobe premier is really good, but its REALLY hard to use. pinnacle studio 8 is another good program that is pretty easy to use.

I love Premiere... and its not that hard to use...

its not stupid proof, and can be unstable if you start messing with the advanced stuff when not knowing what you're doing... but its a great piece of software.

Sony's MovieShaker software is close to stupid-proof... i've used it a little since I don't have premiere on this computer...

the Mac Imovie software is even easier.

What?!?!? The Collection is over $1000?!? And he doesn't need After Effects or Photoshop to get started. Adobe Premier Pro is under $700 and that is more than enough to master some videos of the rugrats for the grandparents. You could get Premier at an even lower price by buying an older release such as 5.0/5.5.

Regardless, all of this I think is a bit more than what the original poster needs. If you've got XP, just use the included Windows Movie Maker utility until you can find a reason to justify sinking $500+ on a full package (not to mention another $200+ on books to figure out how to use it). You don't necessarily need Premier or Final Cut for what you want to do ... a $100-odd package from ULead would probably be good enough if Windows Movie Maker doesn't have enough features for you.

Yeah, too bad that you don't have a mac. I use my old iMac with somethin like OS9 or something to edit videos. iMovie and Final Cut Pro are great programs. I'll look for stuff for XP though...

I could be mistaken, but I don't think that Final Cut has been available for the PC since it was owned by Macromedia years and years ago. Any Final Cut Pro versions for Windows were jettisoned the day that the Adobe Premier design team left Adobe and moved to Apple.

Anyhow, I'm not just commenting on that, but rather the generous suggestions that someone should go invest hundreds upon hundreds of dollars in something that a free program can easily accomplish. The original poster wasn't looking for tips on how to superimpose his newborn child onto the sinking Titanic with a John Williams score blaring in the background.

He simply needs a way to cut out the boring/bad footage, and maybe do a cross-fade or wipe at its most advanced. Whether he has a Mac (iMovie) or XP (Movie Maker), either will suit him just fine, suggestions of Final Cut and Premier (while both are excellent programs) are a wee bit extreme.

people, did we forget to read his post? premier and all that other stuff you guys are suggesting is WAY to expensive and complicated for a beginner. all he wants to do is have a simple program for editing and uploading videos, not something that will give him an oscar. and now, being the hypocrit that i am, i will leave without actually mentioning a simple video editing program.
