Actually if it was found that Nick Berg was actually beheaded when dead it would somewhat trivialize it. I mean it would still be horrible, but it wouldn't be the same as if he was alive.

Yes, it is a shameful thing to trivialize Nick Burg's death. But, I think it'd be more shameful to lie about his death (which the terrorists might have done).

Also, about the beheaded dead or live thing...
Of course the impact is different! That's why the video MIGHT have been cut in such a way to look like it was done while he was alive. That way it would have a much harder and more grusome impact on the people who watched it. If it was known he was already dead at the time of beheading, people would have still reacted, but in a much different way. If he were to be alive at the point of beheading, it would be bloody, gruesome murder. If he were dead, it would be desecrating a dead body. The first one would provoke much more shock and fear, while the later choice would provoke pure disgust and hate. The terrorists wanted to scare us with it so of course the live impact would be better for their cause.

FOL: I think you are making a big stink over nothing. People are in no way trivializing anything. They are merely trying to determine the validity of what they are seeing. Many people are fooled into believing everything they see and hear, it is smart to determine when you are being fed something false. What the video shows is indeed gruesome and it is quite hard to take, but I too feel that it makes a difference whether or not he is alive or dead before the beheading.

They only respond to violence, that's the way it's been here for 5,000 years. They want to shock us with one gruesome death, then we need to destroy them with hundreds.

You know what my favorite part is?

That the same people that want us to be outraged for all of eternity because a hanful of guards put some bags over the heads of some prisoners are going out of their way to make a gruesome and barbaric beheading more palatable to the masses en large.

Its just disgusting. It was a barbaric act. I doubt very seriously he was dead before they cut his head off.

Which brings me to another point. I'm tired of calling it a beheading. Beheadings were quick, clean, and relativly plainless. Just a simple slice and off comes the head. What happened to Nick Berg was not a beheading in the sense of the words as we know it. His head was savaging and brutally sawed off.

The people that did it are barbaric and deserved to be scoured from the face of the earth.

I watched the video but I couldn't watch it completely...how did you guys know the time lapse, and yes there really wasn't that much blood now that I think about it. I don't think anyone wants to trivialize his death, but if the video was created as a very calculated propaganda machine by either side, then it does warrant a tiny bit of discussion.

not trying to be like facts here, but that statment was in kinda poor taste considering Army is in fact over there and his life is in fact in harms way. It really isn't a jokeing matter. I do see there is relative humor in what you said, but the fact is, is that the people our Army is fighting don't have a civilized bone in their body. while the majority of the world matured over the last several thousand years, this section of the planet seems to be left more in an ape like state.

They understand one thing, brute force! therefore, in order to teach them, this is what we must use.

It is a damn shame, but i don't see how questioning wheather the vid was edited or not trivializes our fellow American's grusome end. it truely is a shame what happened to him, wheather they cut his throat and a few hours later decided to take his head should make no difference. But questioning what happened is NOT wrong.

However, one thing i do thing trivializes his death is everone and their mother being able to watch it on the net. That is what saddens me and i can't imagine what it would be like to be his family, knowing not only how he died, but knowing that all the world can watch my son's last minutes like that would make me even more upset.

I have not watched it, and don't intend to. Afterall, many of you guys here have all said you wished you hadn't, and that is good enough for me.
