What're some good shades?

I'm young and poor but I work outside and think I really should get some shades, for comfort reasons and to keep my retinas from getting fried. I need quality ones though if I am to wear them.

Criteria are:

lightweight/fit/overall tendancy to stay on my head
optical clarity
price
looks

I'd really like polorized lenses. Do I really have to pay $200 for such glasses?

Any of the metal Oakley glasses should do you right. I personally wear a pair of Square Wire 2.0's in black polarized iridium. Very sweet pair of specs.

Look at Arnette sunglasses. They have a number of styles that are durable, lightweight, polorized and start at around $70. I've had a pair now for over a year and they work great.

I ususally just buy a pair of cheap 5 dollars glasses. I went the Oakley trail a few summers back. I think I lost close to over a thousand dollars of sunglasses that year. I keep losing the dang things. Now it's 5 dollar knock offs.

the thing is the difference between UVA and UVB protection in most cases is nothing... but clarity of the lenses in the cheap 5 dollar once (although most of the times unnoticeable) is blotchy and fogged... wich can cuase fuzzy vision.


but to stay on topic. any glasses with UVA and UVB protection of 100% will suit you good but i suggest spending a little more and get a decent pair that wont hurt your eyes after a while because of a bad lens

I'm a huge Bolle fan. I bought a pair of Bolle Natrix sunglasses a few summers back and they were absolutely perfect. Fully polarized, incredibly lightweight, and very good looking. Unfortunately I lost them in the woods on a walk one day (had them hooked I my shirt and I bent over to pick something up and they slipped off ) and soon afterwards found out they were no longer made. Recently I found out that an outdoor company called Camp Mor managed to find some overstock or something of them and they have them on sale for $30 which is an insane price considering I got my first pair for about $100. Anyway, check out some Bolle sunglasses, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

By the way, if you're wondering what I bought them for I'm a sailing instructor at my local sailing club and the Natrix worked wonders for cutting down glare from the water. My eye doctor said that the cinnamon colored lenses I had were the best color for keeping my eyes healthy.

You know, it sounds like what you are really looking for are tinted safety glasses. They are usually inexpensive, optically clear, and provide more than just protection from the sun.

hell yeah. But i don't go for the real thing, you can get the same thing at the dollar store for.. well, a dollar. The only downside to that is you have to buy a new pair like every month because they tend to break a lot.

I wear Julbo sunglasses. They are much better than any Oakleys I've worn, and they are about half the price. Mine are polarized and they only cost $50 at REI. They have never fallen off, and the fit is comfortably snug. The shape of the frame matches the contours of my face so little light comes in from around the frame. Optical quality is superb and the lenses are very durable.

No. Glass's ability to stay on my head, without constant adjustment, during mildly rigorus activity (by work, I do not mean gardening or weedeating, think more like sporting activity) is of the utmost importance.

I am poor but not cheap, whatever it takes.

No some nice Oakley E-Wires will work just fine for about $130!
