I'm torn.
On one side I love the raw power of nature. It's fantastic to see something that much more powerful then us. Really reminds us that we simply are not in control but are caught in a highly unpredictable system.
On the other, these storms scare the hell outta me. We've never had a tornado here that I can recall in NY but we have our share of hurricanse that come ashore. Man, do they pack a wallop.
My question is this.
Why do people live in areas that have high probabilities for these destructive storms whether it be CA and their quakes or FL and their storms.
For me, as soon as my first house comes down, I'm outta there!Return to the free market. Get rid of all government regulations and let society make it's own decisions. Time and again the relaxing of government regulations has increased profits, innovation and the economy.Comment

Yeah its storming/was storming pretty bad over here. They dont freak me out if im standing outside/running around or inside my house.. but when you're driving you cant see ANYTHING.. or atleast it was that bad today.. it was like a solid sheet of rain coming down, and you had maybe like 2 feet of visibility..Comment

Actually my wife gets on to me all the time cause I like to stand out on the porch and watch them. Especially lightning , which terrifies her.
I love to watch the clouds roll in and wind blow the rain.Thunder booming all around. Its AWESOME!
And I agree , those were some nasty storms that rolled through. We got hammered down here on southside too......Comment

I don't really mind heavy rain itself. Intense cloud to ground lightning, high winds and tornado's.... I don't like at all.
The stuff in Dalton/Atlanta is heading our way. Coming in from the south now.Comment

One of the things I do is study weather. And keep up with it. Very interesting and lots of cool sites out there
For instance here our latest radar. I am just north and west of the town labeled Anderson in one of those border counties of SC to NC. The one up from Georgia boarder. Pickens county
If you studied you would know that the storms you saw today were tropical in nature and the darkness of them is heavy moisture. these are not typical Tornado storms. They are heavy rainers.Coming from the tropical moisture around Texas/Louisiana out of the Gulf of Mexico.Comment

I'm not really afraid of storms or any of the effects. If I see tornado warnings in our area I go and sit out on the front porch looking around and waiting for it. Granted, if I saw that tornado heading straight torwards me I'd probably wig out.
Phil, My aunt who lives in Anderson and owns Creative Health and Herbal Nutrition, possibly you've heard of it, tells me that you guys keep getting pounded. I know it's been raining on and off pretty hard here but nothing like what she's telling me.Comment

I love standing out on the porch during a big storm to watch the lightning and dark clouds and everything. But if there was ever a real chance of tornado i'd be the first one in the basement. I've never been in one, but they scare me a lot.pie sucks

I can go in my Biker garb and scare her or something.... And is she hot?Originally posted by Rob218I'm not really afraid of storms or any of the effects. Yea...Sunday I was out on the field and within 30 minutes there was about an inch and a half of water on the field. Talk about saturation. We were all DRENCHED too.Originally posted by cphilipHEY! If you get the umm...cojones to go in there, pick up a snack bar, some fruit juice and some "tai chi." The food's alright but the Tai Chi will mess you up major big time..It's a really cool ointment that when applied gives you the feel of icy hot and a really nice taste in your mouth. It will help you sleep too. Just walk in, ask for Terry Hall, if she's with a client or something just browse around. When she comes just chat..You'll learn ALOT of stuff. She's a Flamin' RedHead so beware....Hehehe... she's not into unka phil's candy...so I dun think offerin' it to her would be a good thing. She'd probably just laugh really hard. If you want candy go check out the Mass General Store on Main Street. That place is awesome. When I go up to Anderson to stay, and I'm not working I spend all my time in there looking around.
Oh yea, just drop a line that you're her nephew's Uncle Phil on a paintball forum. She'll crack up.Last edited by Rob218; 06-15-2004, 10:27 PM.Comment
