I like some, few console 'rpgs' like final fantasy III, VII, and Tactics; Xenogears and suikodens and such.

I've got 2 characters on City of Heroes (one on Victory and one on Infinity). Both mutation blasters, although the one on Victory is level 12. In a friends opinion, tt's pretty shallow for an MMORPG, but tthat's due to no PvP (although they're taking care of that aspect of the game with City of Villans).
There are three kinds of people in the world: Those who can count, and those who can't.

PVP is not the cause of its shallowness.

The game has nothing beyond the fighting. You might as well play UT2004 (and ut2004 pulls it off better).

I'm not saying it isn't a fun game for those who don't want to be bothered with an economy, crafting, or anything else but logging on and fighting (and they make no seceret that those are not present). But pvp isn't the cause of the shallowness.

                        Both...

dark age of camelot for the last 2.5 years is my MMO choice of addiction.

pen and paper RPG's are numerious and plentiful...

most recently I have played these systems:

                        3.5 AD&D
                        Spycraft
                        D20 Modern
                        Whitewolf

AFTICA 4 Life! the low rent (unsponsored) AGD team at IAO
Team Sandbaggers: 2k4 Texball Champs of the world!

                        SFL Emag
                        RTP abomination
Sydarm + scenario project VM-68 to be featured later.

I used to play Ultima Online until they royally screwed it up. I was even banned a few times

waiting for www.darkfallonline.com to come out

I used to play RPGS, pen-and-paper or tabletop miniatures.

                            AD&D, Star Wars, Shadowrun, Twilight:2000.

Some of my old gamer friends moved on to MMORPGs, but I could never see the appeal.

oh god... I'm shuddering to recall how many years I wasted in my friend's basement not getting laid, wondering why girls don't role-play. ;-)

                              lets see,
Dungeons and Dragons 2nd edition (and every damn expansion pack they made)
                              Marvel Super Heroes
                              GURPS
                              Car Wars
                              Battletech
                              Legions of Steel
                              Planetstorm
                              Gundam
                              call of cthulhu
                              shadowrun
Ninja's and Superspies (or something like that...)

and then, just to prove we were bigger nerds then anyone else, we started writing our own rules. They were actually pretty good to... we had a martial arts game, a big-robot game, a fantasy game (elves and whatnot, not J.Lo.)

I refuse to play MM games. I've seen far too many lives ruined by that type of game. Saddest story is a woman I know who used to work for Compaq in their server/large storage sales force. She ended up losing a $300k/year job due to playing too much Everquest...
