I have a lot of headphones around here. Mostly all were from the studio.

4 pairs for AKG 240's - These are what the guitarists and singers used.

1 pair of AKG 271 - These were what the drummer used.

2 pair Sennheiser HD250's - for console work.

These were run by an Furman headphone distro amp.

I have more phones, but none worth mentioning...

Also ran a pair of Alesis Prolinear monitor in the console room and a pair of JBLs in the session room. These were powered by two Makie amps.

Yeah, I was discussing that earlier. The problem is that the music is being engineered for the $200 boomboxes that the masses use. You have to look for recordings that have a neutral balance and a wide dynamic range. I love playing Mikey Hart's "Planet Drum" and "Dafos" for people on my system, they look ho hum until the first big bass transient, then they jump out of their seats.

On a sad note, I just found out the needle on my blue point special broke I should have expected that, as its a common problem with the BPS. Theres $200 down the drain.

hmm i actually found a great program that copies the cd as is with no compression of the songs... although a cd takes up about 400-500 mbs per cd... but doesnt bother me thats the only reason i got the extra storage on my comp after im done ill have less then 8gb's left on my comp

I do love Grado phones, and since I have a local dealer who gives me damn good prices on them I have tended to go that way.
I need him to thrown me a bone, I need to replace my phono cartidge and Ive been meaning to try a grado.

Muzik, i hear ya on the tubed amps vs solid state. For my home theatre i run an Onkyo reciever to a pair of Tower Bose with Bose surround. For my Computer i run a Marantz 2245 Tube Reciever running to Studio JBL's. And the sound difference is amazing. I've collected Marantz recievers for years, and always noticed there was a distinct sound difference between playing a vinyl on my marantz vs the onkyo. Long live the Tubed Amps!

As for collection, i've got a 2225, 2245, 2270, 4220, 4420 and a 4430. Its become an obsession over the years scouring yard sales and flea markets for Marantz Recievers. Still desperatly searching for a pair of 8 MK II or some Imperial speakers.

I've always wanted one of the new Marantz models like your 9300, but never had the cash to buy one. Could sell some of my marantz collection and get it, but i can't part with my babies. Theres just something about a jog dial, green backlights, stainless steel faceplate, knobs everywhere and Meters to tell me signal strength and tuning.

Remember, a lot of the phono sound depends on the quality of the phono preamp. NAD has a decent one in their preamps, so im a happy man.
