First time I took it, I got a 30. Second time, I studied a book some, got a 33. Third time, studied a book a lot, got a 31. Go figure. Anyway, anything above a 30 is pretty good. Not much difference after that (except bragging rights and the ability to do this-
which I did a lot of BTW)
Now, a little
for you!
Good job on that, most people don't make that high.

wow, that was a long time ago... but I think my ACT store was a 36. My SAT was 1330, both were taken cold (the ACT, in fact, was taken after a 3 hour ride on subways and busses because it was very unpopular in NYC at the time, and the only school that offered it was nowhere near any public transportation lines that ran past my home.Brian Lojeck, [email protected]

the sat is more widely accepted on the Eastern coast, the act is more common on the mid west, and west coasts. baisically, the east coast is the only thing that still relies on the SAT. I got a 1140 on my SAT's and it got me into the number 6 school in the nation. which is also the number 1 public institutuion. Kansas State University. Only private institutions are better than k state, and it wasnt hard to get into either. Im not sure what criteria they use for judging this, but, it is the truth

That actually sounds about right, I remember none of my teachers believed me either. ;-)Originally posted by bertmcmahanBrian, you sure you got a 36? Thats the highest you can get, oretty stinkin rare, especially if you just got off a long subway ride. But hey, if you did, more power to ya.
I've always been pretty good at taking tests, it's life that screws me up. ;-)Brian Lojeck, [email protected]

I got a 27, then a 30... I have to take it one more time, but after the 30 a lot of pressure has been taken off. It'll probably help me relax a lot more taking the test.
SAT I ended up getting a 1290, but I don't really know what a good score for that would be.Comment

Well not to rain on K states rep and it is a great school but Clemson University's average SAT score for incoming freshmen was 1204 last year. A Public school by the way. 1140 would have gotten you in if they had room. but would have been below average. Its a good score by the way.Originally posted by magman007the sat is more widely accepted on the Eastern coast, the act is more common on the mid west, and west coasts. baisically, the east coast is the only thing that still relies on the SAT. It pretty much did. I got into U.S.C. with a B average in high school.Originally posted by tony336 is a perfect score, you could get into any college in the US with a 36...
It was then that I found out you can't hear a professor lecture with your head stuck up your ***. 12 years later I've almost paid off all the debt I accumulated while flunking out, and I'm 2 years into getting my BS in Electrical Engineering.Brian Lojeck, [email protected]

Phil, i completely understand, the fact that i had a 3.7 average, which would have been a 3.95 had i not gone to chile, probabally effected my chances of getting in as well
im not really sure how k state got ranked number 1 as the best public institution, but thats what they told us at orientation.
I was also accepted at Perdue, but not for flight major, since my app was in late. Their average incomming sat score is actually 100 points more than i recieved, yet i still got in
Actually, i wouldhave been honored to go to clemson, but i want to be a flight major, and get my bachelors in Aviation and Flight sciences.
If clemson had a flight program, phil i would have tried my hardest to get in
It just feels great that i got into a good state school, Im on the satalite campus, their institute of aviation and technology, with only 1000 or so students. Big school feeling, and all the acessability of main campus, with the small school atmosphere, which im used to. I had a graduating class of 34 people, in a school of 143
also, even though you may have gotten a 1600 on the sat, or a 36 on the ACT, you still wont be accepted to any school you want in the country. They really look for a well rounded individual. People have not been accepted to harvard with scores of 1600, because they did not fit the criteria of being a well rounded individual. im sure you will see some students with scores as low as 1200 or even 1100 getting into harvard, because they got what it takes.
Some people just dont test well. I have a genious IQ score, but my ADD, despite the work and time i have put into over comming it, still hinders me in these respects.
Also, with my score, i was still rejected by some local private colleges, such as Dickinson and Franklin and Marshal. Both very good schools, and i was dissapointed that i was waitlisted at both, i guess i just didnt meet their criteria.
And phil, i appreciate your compliments on my score. Im dissapointed that i didnt score higher, as i know i am better than what that score says.
btw the best score in my class, was a 1330, by the worst kid on campus. That really Irked me!
What ever you do, and where ever you go, make sure that you are doing something, and going some where, that you truely like. Dont let the names of the big schools make your decision for you. Some of the big name schools dont care about you, they just want your money, and they could care less if you fail out. I found with k state, this isnt the deal. They are willing to give you the help you need to succede, something i do need, because of my ADD. The facilities are amazing and all brand new. This is what made my decision over going to Daniel Webster in nashua New Hampshire. They had crappy facilities, poor dorms (compared to k state) and despite being a very small campus, and offering me 11000 dollars in scholarship money anually, i still went with KSU. Because it was the better school in my opinion.
So i guess what im trying to say, is follow your dream, because now is the time to do it. What you do in college can invariably decide what you do in life, and where you decide to go, and how you decide to deal with it. Everything you have done up to now, all comes down to this. If you have trouble, it is ok, dont worry about it. Just do your best, and learn all that you can.
Hopefully in a few years, i will be flying some of you successfull Aoers around, if i get my job at execujet. Or il be flying you from tourny to tourny, if i get my job at delta(both of which i have very strong connections with)
Just remember, give it your all. and have fun, but not too much

According to a conversion table I just found with Google, my SAT score translates into about a 33-34 ACT score. Then again, brianlojeck's score was a good bit lower than mine and he got a 36, which makes me wonder how well they translate..
The three things that they tell you to do in preparation for the SAT are:
1. Study!
2. Get a good night's sleep.
3. Have a good breakfast the morning of the test.
I never studied a bit, unless you want to count taking the PSAT the year before. I got home at about 3:30 the night before I had to take it, and I didn't wake up in time to eat breakfast since the test was at about 8:00.
I got the highest score in my school, and I am currently desperately looking for a job to pay me at least minimum wage so I'll be able to afford to attend my local community college next spring. I was medically discharged from the Navy out of boot camp (for respiratory/endurance issues stemming from pectus excavatum, i.e. concave chest), so my plan for how my life was going to play out sort of evaporated on me. I'm in the situation I'm in now because I got something like a 2.6 GPA in high school.
So, moral of the story, before any of you younger kids go thinking that getting a killer test score upon the culmination of your free and mandatory years of education will ensure you an easy ride into your expensive and optional ones, consider this: very, very few people do as well on this test as I did, and I'm in the situation I described above. Do as well as you possibly can in school, or you will spend the rest of your life regretting it, no matter how well you do on any test.Your head asplode!Comment

ACT to SAT score conversions
Ahh, don't worry about it. I'm not depressed or anything like that, I just figure if somebody else can learn from my mistakes then I owe it to them to give them the chance. Or something like that.
My brother, who is in the Navy in the same program I was headed for (nuclear field) told me that my discharge was the best thing that ever happened to me. Understandable, since he's currently on a submarine that should have been decommissioned years ago, looking forward to spending his wifes 20th and his 21'st birthdays undersea.
Anyway, I'm just trying to make the best of my life as it stands at the moment, rather than fret about what could have been. I'll be okay.
