Urm, did you use thermal paste?

Also, the read outs you get are not necessarily accurate - can be off quite a bit.

there appeared to be thermal paste already on it, which is what the guy told me before he shipped it out...was this grey mushy stuff attached to the bottom of the heatsink where the processor would touch. anyway, the temp isn't really TOO much different than before, but the RPMs are a good 300 less...and i have no idea why.

        Better Fan Design?

I really wouldn't worry, my AMD 64 runs 50*C Stock and has been for a while, depending on your processor, some run hotter then others (Amd 64's and Prescott P4's)

        Don't worry about it

Open up a video game... play it for 5mins, then restart and check your temp (unless you have an ASUS board and you can use their program to check).

Most CPU's will run just fine til they get above 130 or so (most run fine above, but some seem to hvae issues at about 130).

Mine stays about 109 and sometimes goes up to 118 if I'm doing some hardcore rendering. But honestly if its below 130 I dont forsee issues, but keep an eye on it.

so the temp is fine...slower fan speed isn't something to worry about then i would hope?

Most of the newer fans adjust speed according to temp. They normally have a "normal rate" and when the temp rises to a certain point the board kicks it into overdrive.

My fan runs pretty slow in actuality, but when I'm rendering 16gigs of video file into an MPEG2 file and my PC is chuggin alone, my temp still doesn't get above 117.

As long as your CPU temp is good when your PC is working hard then your fine. Its not always about the RPM of the fan. If you have a good heatsink, and a well bladed fan you'll be fine.

Curious, What motherboard do you have, some report much higher than actual temperatures. (for instance Abit IC7 Series)

Also, you gonna be better off picking up some good thermal paste and using that rather than the pad that came on the heatsink.

LOL...i have the abit IC7 mobo...(really). and do what with the paste that is already attached to the heatsink? take alcohol to it? when putting the new heatsink on, should i have wiped down the processor with alcohol (to get the old paste off of the processor)?????????
