    Pectus Excavatum

Anybody here have this condition? It's the technical term for when you have a giant pit in your chest. I always called it an indented chest. Well, I have it. Mine isn't severe, but it isn't minor. They have a new procedure to fix it now. They used to break all your ribs and put your chest back together. Now they jam this metal bar under there, and just pop your ribs out into place. It's a lot less intrusive. I'm in the process of seeing a specialist to see if I should get the surgery. I'm just curious if anyone else has a pit in their chest, and if they've looked into getting it fixed.

Aaaaah, cphilip, your corny jokes never cease to amuse me.

As to the original question... no, I don't have that, but I have seen people with it. They were fine with it cause it caused no health problems, but I'd recommend that if it does for you, you should get the operation, cause it will likely either get worse, or have bad affects later in life. Either way, best of luck with what you choose man.

I have it, it got me discharged from the military, actually. I went in knowing that I had it but not knowing that it had any effect, only to be told by Navy and civilian doctors at boot camp that it was preventing my heart and lungs from completely expanding. I've always been in good shape, but always had bad endurance - turned out that was why. Seems obvious, looking back.. I'm thinking about getting it fixed once I can get myself some health insurance that'll cover it. It's funny to think how much better I could be at so many things, and be short nothing other than a conversation piece.. Good luck with your surgery, if you end up getting it!
