Doc Conners was the guy that threatened to fail Parker if he didn't shape up I thought. Carnage is the symbiant w/ some psycho guy (forgot his name). He lets the symbiant take over and all, so they really are "one". Venom refers to itself as we; Carnage refers to itself as I; Venom is methodical and stuff, Carnage is just an insane lunatic blowing things up. Don't know if that'll help jog your memory.

yeah JJJ's son went to the moon and the Venom sybiote hitched a ride back with him...i don't think John Jameson(JJJ's son) ever actually uses the Venon suit...John turns into a werewolf, if i'm not mistaken...the Venom suit is worn by a big dumb blonde guy named Eddie Brock who's jealous of Spider-man...

as far as Carnage goes, i'm not real clear on his origins, but it has something to do with the Venom symbiote replicating itself on Earth, so Carnage is created...

oh, and which villian am I hoping for? THE BLACK CAT...though, only because Sam Raimi wants Eliza Dushku to play her...

Hrm...definitely Lizard and Greengoblin. However, the Venom theory does sound possible. Did you see the look on JJJ's son's face when he got stood up?! He didn't look too happy and it's just one more guy to hate PP. The simple fact that they made a big deal of him going onto the moon is a good way to set things up.

However, it does seem a bit overkill to have all those villans after spidey...GG, Liz, Doc Ock, and Venom?! Makes me wonder if they also plan on bringing another good guy to help Spidey out? There was a mention of Dr. Strange(JJJ says that name is taken while coming up with Doc Ock's name)...not sure if he was a good or bad guy tho.

              Green Goblin

from AICN, I heard that both Venom and Harry taking up the Green Goblin are possibilites. Haven't seen 2 yet, but apparently both plot lines are plausible given what happens in 2.

Personally, I thought the Green Goblin was really lame. It's supposed to be a military wweapon, but it has a big evil menacing grin? Yellow eyes? Scary voice box?

So, I'd like to see Venom. Not sure if I like them deviating from the comics, but there are so many versions in the books... Gotta trust Raimi, I guess.
God....I guess I was probably returning videotapes.

Hmm, alot of info confusing the comic books with the cartoons and TV shows. Quick run-down, which is somewhat duplicated in another thread.

The Spidey-verse (it's very, very sad that I still remember all this ... and my girlfriend hasn't dumped me yet!)

                1. Green Goblin(s) - There are at least three. Norman Osborn is the first. In the comics, he was impaled on his own glider, just as in the first film. However, it later turned out that the serum that gave him his heightened strength, abilities, and dual personalities also gave him regenerative capabilities (like Wolverine in the X-Men series). Green Goblin (Norman) returned in the books, though the film apparently leaves that out of the question. Green Goblin II is Harry, of course. As per comic books, Green Goblin II and Spidey fight several times. Peter helps Harry seek therapy for his mental illness and mounting drug and alcohol problems. The third Green Goblin is Dr. Hamilton, Harry's psychiatrist. Through hypnosis, Dr. Hamilton learns who Spider-Man is, where the Green Goblin possessions are stashed, and assumes the identity while Harry is locked up.

In the comics, Spidey originally dated Gwen Stacy, who was dropped off the Brooklyn Bridge by Norman and killed. While Peter was dating Gwen, and later Betty Brant, Harry dated MJ. It appears Raimi is avoiding this entirely, as ruthlessly killing a major character in a Summer comic-based popcorn/action flick probably violates about six milllion Hollywood tabboos ... I don't know. As we've seen, Raimi grafted the two plot threads together, having Norman drop MJ off the bridge instead, though Spidey saves her.

                2. Hobgoblin(s) - There are two from the classic books. The first is Rod Kingsley, a fashion tycoon. He purchases the serum from Harry Osborn, and has a strain created that doesn't result in multiple personalities. The second Hobgoblin is Ned Leeds. Ned is an investigative reporter for the Bugle, and Peter's chief opponent for getting decent stories. Of note, Ned Leeds marries Betty Brant after she and Peter have a fling. Betty is JJJ's secretary at the Bugle, and is featured in both films with speaking scenes. It's unclear whether Sam Raimi will include this plot thread, since the series obviously stars Kirsten Dunst as MJ. It's a possiblity this would be pursued if Kirsten leaves the series, and any Hobgoblins would be introduced in that story arc.

                3. Scorpion - Scorpion is the effort of J Jonah Jameson to rid the world of Spider-Man. Scorpion was always a major villain in the books, though he terrorized JJ Jameson more than Spider-Man. The character who becomes Scorpion, Mac Gargan, hasn't been introduced in the movies though. I would expect that the name will at least appear in the third film, as Raimi has shown a propensity of dropping in references for later use, such as with Flash, the high school bully, in the first film.

                4. Lizard - The Lizard is Dr. Curt Connors, Peter's biology professor. Dr. Connors is missing an arm as a result of a war wound when he served as a combat medic. Any references as to which war, WWII, Korea, or Vietnam, would have been in the comics long before I was born, so I'm not sure. Dr Connors personal ambition is to research how reptiles can regrow missing limbs and tails, obviously in an effort to regrow his own arm. His transformation into the Lizard occurs (naturally) after failed self experimentation. He's a likely candidate for a villain in the third film, though could be pushed back in the franchise to build his character more in Spider-Man 3.

                5. Man-Wolf - The Man-Wolf is John Jameson, JJ Jameson's astronaut son. His transformation is the result of a strange ruby-like gem he found on the moon and brought back to Earth. John is a featured character in Spider-Man 2, and it is explained that he has already been to the moon, so it's unclear where Raimi is going with this. The Man-Wolf villain was ultimately pretty lame in the books and thankfully, wasn't a recurring character. It's a possibility for the movies, though unlikely. The Man-Wolf was mostly rejected by fans because of the supernatural, horror-show method by which he exists, in contrast to the way other characters are created - genetic mutation. It has been confirmed both by cast members and Raimi that scenes of John Jameson finding something (see below) on the moon were filmed, and intended as a bonus segment/teaser that would run after the closing credits of Spider-Man 2. This segment does not appear in the film now though, so look for it on the DVD.

                6. Venom - Venom is an alien symbiote. In the comics, Venom was found in a massive crossover series titled Secret Wars that was published in the early 80s. In the cartoons, since it was impossible to even attempt to explain the Secret Wars plot line, the shows producers instead had the symbiote arriving on earth via John Jameson's moon mission - this kills two lame plot threads in one swoop (Secret Wars & Man-Wolf) while introducing the Venom character. Venom is not the symbiote alone though, Venom is created when Spidey rejects it and it joins with Eddie Brock. Eddie Brock is an uncredited cast member in both Spider-Man films, and apparently Raimi has Eddie working at the Bugle with Peter. Eddie's name is mentioned in the first scene in JJJ's office in the first film.

The problem with the Venom character though is that it is already a licensed property of New Line Cinema, while Spider-Man is licensed to Sony. Unless Marvel bought back the rights to the Venom film property from New Line, whether Venom is a character in any upcoming films is unclear. This problem actually exists for a lot of Marvel characters, now Daredevil and Hulk, each the property of different studios. Daredevil and Spidey were often interwoven in each other's books, as they had a common enemy, Kingpin.

Also of note, the character of Robbie Robertson (JJJ's city editor, and later editor-in-chief, the husky black man always at JJJ's desk defending Spider-Man) is a minor character whose background allows the introduction of other villains. Of course, the movie leaves the possiblity of whether Doc Ock is really dead up in the air, so he's always a possibility to return.
