    Weird spyware problem

Ok, for some reason my homepage was set to some weird search page. And it just says "about:blank" in the adress bar. And I keep getting spyware remover pop ups evertime I open a browser. I can't change the homepage either, it won't let me. I've run a spyware remover and norton antivirus and its still like this. I also noticed recently my computer has been really flakey and now pretty much every program has an illegal opperation after about 5 minutes of me using it.

Explorer is garbage. Full of holes. Think of it as swiss cheese.

Go to microsoft.com and check your Windows updates.

          Then, download Mozilla Firebird/Firefox. http://www.mozilla.org

          Never use IE again....

I have that same problem, my friend finally fixed his computer, same problem too. He hasnt fixed my comp yet, but sgt_easton on AO is his name. pm him and he might be able to help. I hear it is a long and painful process though...

since this seems to be a problem many are having, I linked him to this thread, hopefully he will reply.

Ah, the dreaded new variant of the Cool Web Search Trojan makes it's presence known again....

First off, Ad-Aware, Spybot, and Norton AV are useless for this problem. They are good things to have, though.

Here's a link. I highly advise you to read the whole thing first, and follow all instructions. It's somewhat complicated.

c:\WINDOWS> so, you need to make it look like C:\WINDOWS>CD C:\WINDOWS\system32\ and then press enter. I had to dig through a link later on to find that, so I figuired I'd save you the trouble.

I just picked up Norton Personal Firewall the other day to prevent this from EVER happening again. It looks to be pretty good, but we'll see.

Oh yeah: Be VERY careful with Hijackthis. You can really, really, REALLY screw yourself good if you're not careful.

we tried that.. came back the next day.

although.. after running updated adaware, hijackthis, regscrub, and spybot search and destroy, my problem appears to be gone.

This should be illegal. They plant something in people's computers that messes up their browser and computer in general to advertize spyware removers. Spyware which they put into my computer.
