Anyone know how to build a subwoofer box?

I'm looking to build a 12in sub box for my new ride because the trunk won't take a pre-made one, but I really don't know where to begin. I was thinking of using standard partical or press board for most of it... but are there certain parameters I need to follow? What do I need to know and do? Someone please help.

You need top find out how much airspace your speaker needs to operate properly. Also find out if the speaker is designed for a band pass or sealed enclosure.

Make sure to build teh box large enough to allow for the airspace it needs. Otherwise good luck and HF.

Every subwoofer(almost every) requires a certain amount of volume for the enclosure.Find out the spec for the speaker you choose and go by that. There are basically 3 kinds of enclosures. Sealed, ported and a combination of those 2(bandpass). Sealed will be the smallest size box, ported the next and bandpass(the combo)the largest size.

For a truck, I'm guessing sealed will be your best bet if size is a concern,if not, ported usually is more efficient (louder). You should use MDF or better in 1/2" thick minimum in most cases. 5/8" would be better and 3/4" only if your using REALLY high power/output sub.

It should be glued w/ sealed seams and preferably the face(where the sub mounts) should not be parallel to the back of the box.

      That's pretty much the basics.

          Definitely glued and screwed.

          Construction adhesive works very well.

"Sealed" boxes will give you a tighter sounding bass while "ported" enclosures will be boomier sounding.

What are you looking for with the subs? Do you want a ton of bass or for pure sound quality? Do you want one or two 12" subs?

I'm looking for somewhere in between the two, and I'll probabily go with 2 12'' subs.
