    Cd rom drive trouble

    About a week ago, both the cd rom drives in my computer just stopped working. only the cd burner reads discs, and it reads em rarely and a lot of time doesnt even spin... the other main drive just wont even read. Anybody know whats wrong with em?

    They're borked.



    Just buy a new one... www.newegg.com has a DVD CD-RW combo for 50 bucks... think its made by samsung, mine works awesome.

        Well what it sounds like to me.... IT COULD be your power supply. Because if it works some of the time, and stuff like that. It sounds liek a power problem... Before you go out and buy a new one do this

        Unplug ur fans, ur floppy drive, ur other Disk Drive.... Bassically so u have you hardrive your motherboard, and ur Drive.... Then see if it works. If so, its time to get a new power supply...

          also a common problem is that the optics get dust collected on them.

          get yourself a can of air from the store since they have little or no moisture.


          open drive bay and spray a few bursts in there on a angle to try and blow it out.

          let it settle a minute and repeat.

            if the cd rom drives are both on the same IDE cable, that IDE cable could have gone bad.

              Well he said it sometimes opens... So that sounds like a power problem.... I think the poster should atleast try what were saying.....
