OK, I'm planning on making a rocket launcher from PVC and some other stuff (model rockets, not trying to bring down a helicopter or anything). I was wondering if any of you had launched any rockets sideways, and what the results were. Is there any certain way to arrange the fins? Do the standard 4-fin patterns work all right? I was kinda thinking that they might fall down pretty strait, and I would have to arc it a lot to get it anywhere. So anyway if any of ya have any success with this. If not, then I'll use the old tryatonoftimewastingdesigns method.

You have to launch it high above the ground to get it far. If not, gravity would pull it down before it can go anywhere...

Get flimsy fins and spiral them to the body of the rocket, so when it clears the breech, the fins pop out

make sure that you create a blast shield right next to the launch tube, for even after teh rocket leaves the tube, large enough to cover your face
umm dont seal the back of the tube (pressure explosion if you do)

dont make the actual rockets any longet than they have to be, if you add a body and a nose cone, it could ultimatly make the rockets flail to the ground dissapointingly... and fins are necessisary for controlled aiming, be sure that they are VERY even in size and it wouldnt hurt to angle them all in the same direction just a little bit to get the rocket to spin. getting the rocket to spin a little, will help keep it on target and increase accuracy like rifling on a bullet.Comment
