um
im not trying to be a negative nancy but do u realize how much work goes into a supercharger and escpecially a turbo. turbos u pretty much have to replace ur entire exaust from headers down and depending on how much boost you run you may even have to do work on the engine bloock itself. a v8 camaro should give you plenty of power, but i myself can relate and never have enough power.Comment

I personaly was going to go with a Whipple Twin Screw Supercharger http://www.whipplesuperchargers.com/ for my Challenger but I decided I wanted an NA engine and I'm going to throw a 6Pack on it (EEK which is just as expensive

Your doing this the hard way, little story from work. Customer drops his 2002 Corvette Convertible in the parking lot at night, calls the next morning and asks "can you replace the belt" I tell him sure no problem and he tells me good he'll bring down the books I need. Im not paying much attention to it and wonder why I would need books - he brings in this book and I flip it over, on the front it says "Lingefelter" - long story short 383 Lingefelter crate engine @420HP with a supercharger added (by Lingefelter Performance Inc.) that adds 30HP/5lbs of boost - had to be one of the quickest cars I have ever driven...
So.. just call Lingefelter and have them handle it, I would guess it on runs about 30K or so to do."Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. Its not" - Dr SuessComment

conservativly 5-6 lbs of boostOriginally posted by mcveighrHow much psi of boost does a turbo usually put into a car?
moderatly 9-11 lbs
with o-ringed heads it should be safe to go as much as 16 lbs
anything over 16 lbs you've going to need something to hold the block together.
Of course this is all dependant on the compression ration you start with. i think ford 5l has a 9.5 :1 compression ratio if I remember right... and alot of guys add a set of heads and a vortc, pro charger or powerdyne blower with as much as 16 lbs and experiance extreme power gains. I'ver head as much as a 30%. The biggest downfall that a supercharger has it that it takes HP to run it, but when your making 30% more, loosing 5-10hp is an acceptable sacrifice.
The most common, centrifgual blowers, have huge problems with bearings going out. I've heard of so many botched installs I would have to let a shop do it so they can warranty it. The roots style blowers that have been around since the 60's are much more reliable but are heavier and you'll need a new hood.
One other thing i should mention... intercooler. if your gonna drop 1000$ + on a blower, put another 400$ into a intercooler and be impressed.Comment
