pictures are fine as long as you stay WAY out of the way. and when you taking pictures if it is a fatal you better make very sure that you dont have any with the body in it.

Fire1811 - Why would you where full turn out gear for a car accident? I'm not sure about your policy in NY but in the suburbs of NJ if theirs no gas or hazmat we just work in our Fire fighting pants and boots. That is unless we have to start using the rescue gear (jaws or the saw). Besides that the guys you might of seen could of been first responders (EMT's) that looked like they where standing back from the scene after stablizing the victim, so the guys in full turnout gear could work on the car.

The glaring error I saw was the Fire Cheif. The Fire Chief (whiter shirt) in my opion is he should of never came withing 15 feet of the accident because he's the man. Hes the one in charge and makes all the calls. When hes working on the car and the victim. He loses sight of the big picture. Which is the safty of the rescuers, civilians and the victims in the car.

its full gear for us. what might not be there when you get there(gas, haz) might be there in a few seconds. thats just are SOP. its also SOP for us that if the tools are in use we have a handline ready to go also. and i REALLY wouldnt feel to secure about working on a victim with a tow truck holding a semi trailer over me, now i cant tell from the picture if it directly over them or too the side.

I am sure as with all incident there are certain factors that I, you or anyone that wasnt there doesnt know.

all in all if they got the victim out, did what they could for him and all my bro's came home safe then thats a job well done.

im just safety minded on accidents there have been a lot of firefighter fatalites this year on them. Hell the year is only half over and we have already lost 57 brothers, and the fall is always worse then the begining of the year. thats not good.

^^Probably not the best thing to say, but oh well. I got in an accident in dec, a kid ran a stop sign going 45 and t-boned my drivers side (i was driving alone). Urgent care for 3 days, collapsed lung, broken collarbone, these accidents aren't funny nor are they spectator events.
