Quick motherboard question.

I've heard good things about the Abit KV8, but out of the ones you posted, I'd go with the Asus.

abit is by far the best mb manufacturer for everything up until the socket 754 mbs. although i love the company, im gonna say stay away from them.

the gigabyte is my choice, im running it and chose it after doing lots of research. they seem to provide the most stability, speed, and have great features. as far as the difference between the pro and non pro, that depends on what features you want to include, and how much you wanna spend. the pro is obviously a little better, and is my recomendation.

Ah...yes. My 1.3 ghz thunderbird was just getting to slow.

Here's what I'm thinking:
Motherboard
Memory
Processor
Video Card

I think I'm gonna need a new power source though (right now I got 350W). Everything else I could canabalize from my current PC (HD, DVD, ect). I'm not sold on the memory. Is that "Extreme Memory Speed" worth the extra money? I'd also prefer a 1 GB stick.

ah yes, that will be a nice setup, but you will need a new powersource. that vid card has two power connectors on it, so it sucks alot of juice, but its fast as all hell.

as far as memory, the thing that makes that xms mem so good is it has tight timings. i believe you can run it at cas 2-3-3-6. it has to do with latency times and acces times, and the lower those numbers, the better the ram is. and yes, you will see a difference.

i have kingston hyperx memory, which is also very good. although mine has the older bh-5 ic chips on it, which are the best. runs cas 2-2-2-6 without a sweat at low voltage, and i can easily push it if i wanna overclock.

Just to clarify, You'll see a difference in benchmarks, don't expect slightly lower timings to show a noticable increase in realworld performance by itself.
