I wouldn't mind having one. I know BMW makes them or has a part in making them. They may be small, but they are very safe cars. So you need not worry about that. I'd say go fo it.

Yea I was looking at the safety aspect of the cars and they seem very good in that regard. Yes they are made by BMW, so I expect that the quality is there.Comment

Safety is awesome since it's BMW. Dual front airbags and I think side airbags are optional (get them if you can)
They are actually a few inches smaller than a Mazda Miata (if you can believe that) and still able to cram 4 people. But since you're relatively tall, don't plan in putting anyone behind you unless they are a 3 year old.
Definitely get the S model. The NA version is a waste if you ask me.AGD - We haven't chopped a ball in years, but nobody believes us...

Yeah the side are bags now come standard on the 05's and they have actually improved on the acceleration and over all horse power. Top speed is now 140mph and i'll be able to do every bit of that over here in germany!Comment

BMW has definately made the miny safer to drive with front and side air bags. the handleing has got a lot better to.

Well there did appear there was some reliabilty and build quality issues at least early on and into 2003 at least. One would have to see if they improved

For the price, the handling is almost unbeatable. From what I've heard, driving one is comparable to driving a slightly overgrown go kart. If you have autocross over in Germany, they are great for that. I couldn't touch the cooper s that was running, and I was in my dads BMW 328i. Anyways, I'd say go for it.James
