I liked the movie although I think M. Night Shyamalan style is starting to get old. If he doesnt change his style with the next movie I dont think to many people are going to keep falling for it.

I to was able to guess the twist in the ending with it being modern time right from the start. To me it made no sense to show what time period it was. Seeing as how you could tell it was an early time period from the far away shot as the movie opened. Also the constent "We are grateful for the time we are given." quote being said over and over. However even if you didnt catch the the surprise at that point, the eye glasses were a dead giveaway. The "doctor" elder wore eye glasses with modern wire frames and modern nose pieces. That was the single most obvious give away at that point.

The only thing that started to make me second guess this was why they never saw a plane over head. Once they started telling the blind girl that she couldnt let anyone know about them I starting thinking they were hiding in a government facility. Since most air above government facilities are no fly zones that would have explained it. Could idea though making it an animal and forest preserve. Pretty damn convienent though that the daughter of the person who created the sanctuary was blind ...

Someone mention something about modern lighting ... I dont think there was ever a visible source of the light shown, but during many night scenes you could tell that several of the lights thrown were from modern sources as they were white in color and not flickering. Anyone whos been camping knows that light from a flaming source is yellowish in colour and typically flickers.

Yes but see for some of us this is the fun of going to a movie. I love to sit there and take in every piece of the movie, and think about it as I am watching it. I myself dont enjoy just sitting there and watching a movie ... I like to take in every thing that is going on. Break it all down and look at the little things in the movie.

Me and my family was at the set of the Village, to make a long story short my sister just beat cancer so she got invited and took us along. We hung out with Weaver and Hunt, then chilled out with M Night and Bryce Howard in the scene that she fell down the hole in the woods. M Night was cool as hell and Bryce was hot in person, her sister was there too and she looked like Paris Hilton. I can feel for these actors, it was like 50 out and raining, in the middle of the woods, in the mud, but it was really awesome to be there. I havent seen it yet belive it or not, havent had time. Heard it sucked but it will be good for me since I was there.

What the heck? I thought the movie was awesome. Sure, I walked in expecting a horror film, but I loved the twists. Maybe I am just one of those persons that doesn't bother criticing a movie because I go to have fun. I enjoyed the movie, and I tend to enjoy most movies out there.

Umm yes there was ... it was where she was walking along and walked up to the edge of the hole left in the ground by the tree that fell over. The ground gave way and she fell into the hole, but managed to grab onto the edge before falling all the way in.

She pulled herself out and then shortly after that is where the "creature" appears and she tricks it/him into charging her and then falling into the hole.

i heard bad reviews of this movie so i wasnt in a real rush to go see it. however, the wife was out on avp and really wanted to see this so i did what most married men do, cave in.

i really enjoyed this movie. i knew going into it that there would be a twist because there always is one with his flicks. i really didnt obsess myself with trying to figure it out, thats kinda like unwrapping your christmas presents when your parents arnt looking, sure you know what your getting but christmas morning just isnt as much fun.

i thought the acting was very good and the flow of the movie was good as well. sure they could have kept the fact that the monsters were fake secret a tad longer, but the father did say there were always rumors of creatures in the woods. i thought it was enough to buy some cred when the last "moster" attacked. solid moive, and im certain there are far worse ways to spend 16 bucks.

I really liked this movie too, but the thing I had the most trouble with is the designation of colors. The mosters always wore red while the villagers wore the yellow. All through the movie I was wondering why the heck a wild animal/monster would dress him/herself in red to show it was around. That didn't seem real to me, and in the end I kept asking why the heck would the elders hate the color red so much. They had some power issues for sure.

The thing I found the most interesting was the fact that these people would let their family members die to protect their society when one of the elders could have easily snuck back into civilization and gotten meds without hurting any part of their society. I also found it interesting how much these people had to lie to their children about everything just to protect their society. In the end I kept asking myself what would happen if they had to go back to live with the modern people. Their children would know absolutely nothing. I want to know what will happen 20, 50, 100, or 200 years from now to these people. How will these people evolve? This movie excels by the questions it makes you ask not with the plot twist or anything else.

I was also confused about the time period at first, but what gave it away for me at the end right after the father let his blind duaghter go to the villages was one of the elder's suits. It looked way too modern to me. Also in one of the earlier scenes their was an oriental man sitting with the villagers. I really didn't see any oriental people in New England at that time. I also kept asking myself why no one casually wondered into the village from other towns.

I liked it. It wasn't really a surprise, I had a feeling they were in modern times when they talked about people being shot and whatnot.

Maybe, just maybe, it was just meant to be a good story, and not a twister ending. After all, if her dad had gone to get medicine when she was going blind, then her fiance might have died. (pretty deep, eh?)

and can you all really tell me you expected to find out that the village leader owned the entire forest they lived in?

For that matter, I liked Signs as well. I even liked Unbreakable, but I have a lot of trouble watching that scene where Mr. Glass descends the subway staircase. (shudder).

Don't get me wrong, i love a good slasher pic as much as anyone (I own the entire Freddy series, and I"m working on The Jason and Halloween sets), but these are good as well.
