    How do I register/make a website?

I'm buying a domain name and making a website, but before I do I need to know some stuff.

After I buy the domain name, how do I make the website? Do I have a password and username or what?

Where do I keep all the files and pics etc. for the website? Is my computer the server or do I have to upload the images onto somebody else's server?

This website is for school, and when school starts I'm going to talk to our computer guy at school about getting the site hosted on the school server. Do I need to transfer all the files to the school or what?

The domain name is from https://www.melbourneit.com btw.

All help would be greatly appreciated.

It'll probobly be easier to buy a host first. I use Hostultra, and the host we're using for my other site I totally forgot... Anyway, Your host is where you store all your pics and html files and whatnot.

The reason I say get the host first is so you already have the DNS servers for when you buy the domain. I reccommend GoDaddy.com for domain registration.

I think I'm getting hosts and severs confused with eachother. My computer isn't lacking memory space, so could I just use my home computer to host the files and html jsut for a month before I get the school to host them?

Thanks for the help so far.

And is there any way that I could just buy the domain name for good without having to pay yearly costs? It's not like the school is short of money, it's jsut that it would be easier to get it done with.

I really don't know much about being your own host... but I use www.fuitadnet.com for my website, and I love them. You got alot, and it's cheap.

I just need to be my own host for like a month, and i'm probably going to be the only one going to the site so i wont have to worry about bandwidth.

hnn.. I could be way off.. but I recently stumbled upon this seems like it should easily do what you want. I don't know if there are any other (free, non trial) programs out there, but... you can easily use the full version of this... just PM me and I'll send you details (I have it on my computer, works fine)

that's what I use, I have never had down time that they didn;t tell me about about a week in advance. Great prices and they know what they are doing.
