He's saying that now it is a stupid trend, which it is, because so many kids are straight-edge one day and potheads the next. Don't take things so personally.

I think it is a stupid trend, for the most part because it's just describing a thing so many people go by, but some people just decided to name it. It's like me saying "I'm never going to be sarcastic again in my life, hey, maybe I should call people who aren't sarcastic "duty free". I'm also going to make a letter to abbreviate it, maybe, um, H. Yea, I'm not-sarcastic, I'm H."

It's also a way for people to brag, since it seems to me that people who don't drink or do drugs brag about it a LOT. They go to a party, and they're like, "I don't drink, I think it erodes the moral values......." They think they are sooo cool because they don't drink, who the hell cares? I think the reason that they brag isn't because they actually believe that drinking is bad; they think that it will make them look cool to not drink. People that actually think drinking is completely bad never actually say that, they just say that they aren't drinking. I've seen it so many times that people announce that they don't drink, but then they drink the next weekend.

I, for one, applaud the committment these guys have. It takes a lot of courage and determination to avoid drinking, drugs, and promiscuous sex, and I think they will end up better for having avoided those pitfalls. Believe me, if you had to deal with the underbelly of society everyday like I do, you would understand a little better.

I am against most of this stuff as well, except I enjoy a leagal drug called salvia, it is available to minors as well so it is not so bad it is pretty awsome and they want to make it ileagal or you atleast have to be 18 but until then I grow it in my garden.

It takes the law a while to catch up with innovation. Just because it isnt illegal doesnt mean that its not bad. I had never heard of it, and just did some research on it. Just another hallucenigen, same as the other crap.

It is cool though because you doo not need to smoke it so my lungs are still intack and it is free for me because my mom and my best friends mom grows it in their gardens. It also only lasts 25-45 min so you are not screwed up the rest of the day. It is also cool because it leaves you with a "happy mood" for a week that only effects your mood not you head, however I have not felt this but my friends comment sometimes that I seem much happier. Another thing is that they do not have the technology to track it. Salvia will be hard to ban as wel because so many people have it in their gardens and they have them there because it helps plants around them grow strongs. So while it is leagal I will do it and not feel bad about it, if it becaomes ileagal I will stop.

ps. my mom puts small amounts in stir fry and it tasts good, but anole it tass very bitter

would you call something that has made huge positive differences in peoples lives for more than 20 years a stupid trend? i take offense to that remark.
i didn't mean the people not drinking/drugs/sex was a stupid trend. i applaud people who live by those morals (for lack of a better word right now). but i think the fact that they feel the need to brag about it and in some cases do it because their friends are doing it. it turns the will to do it from actually believing that these things are wrong and will negatively affect their lives to doing it to fit in or be different from all the potheads and people.

basically, im all for the virtues/beliefs of straight-edge people. i dont like people labeling it and bragging about it. but this may just be me, i dont like attention alot and i like people who are humble and modest. (i.e. i dont like celebrities who bring attention to the good things they do and basically do it for the publicity. then there are the stars who go overseas and help people and the public sometimes doesn't find out what they did until after the person dies)

Soo ... from what u guys have been saying i seem to fit this whole straight-edge thing quite well... 16 and never been drunk, never tried drugs, smoking, even though i have had many chances to. Well, the only time i think might count, i was at a friends house and there were maybe 5 of us, and he was getting drunk off his *** ( only one of us who was ) and he was making us just taste them, but it was like a sip of each, and even though they were like 40 percent alcohol drinks etc, it wasnt nearly enough to have an effect...... so i'm assuming that doesnt count since we were just tasting them ??

Heh...all the edge kids I knew in high school turned edge because they screwed their younger teenage years up so bad by drinking/smoking. Being raging alcoholics at 14 sure screwed them up. Its all in moderation...taking something to the extreme of being "edge" just shows that you don't have the self control to handle the darker side of life, IMHO. I also understand that it can also be a conscious decision, based either on morals or religeon. I am just saying that most of the edge kids I know became edge because they couldnt handle drinking/drugs/sex in moderation. Dont flame me, this is just my opinion.
