Car Audio - Need Help Fast (Miscue!)

Ok, basically my friend is building a spl system and I have a quick question.

    If I am running this amp(800WX1 @ 2ohm):

Will you actually be able to tell the diff. in sound between these two subs?

    #1 (1100W RMS) - Gay Flames
    http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_133.html

    #2 (700W RMS) - Better looking
    http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_131.html#

Basically I realize that #1 would be a little better suited for the amp but I don't want the "Homosexual" flames on the front of the woofer.

Will I actually be able to tell the diff. in sound between the two subs?

    Thanks guys,
    -Patrick

The #2 sub actually has the capacity to make more noise depending on the magnet / technical side of the sub.... The #1 sub has a super small cone area (the smaller the cone, the less sound) and the #2 sub looks to have a considerable bit more cone space.

Do you have a local shop you could listen to them at?

Edit: It looks like the flame sub is rated at 1100w rms rather than the 800 that u posted... Depending on how fast and how far it can move it's probably a louder sub.

Yea, will it really make any difference if it has dual positive/negative terminals if I am just running one amp into the sub? Or do you actually use both of them with only one amp? I'm confused...

looks like there would be 2 sets of pos. and neg. terminals to use this in a 'daisychain' setup, I.E a custom enclosure with multiple subwoofers. Im not sure where the harm would come in in hooking up 2 sets of wires to one subwoofer, if they both go into the same channel on the amp. for safteys sake, you may want to read any manuals that come with the subwoofer, or, contact he store that is selling them, just to idiot proof it.

Couldn't tell you, each sub is different - and I haven't researched those. Audition them if you get the chance.

However, I would suggest that you go with more of a competition sub if you are seriously shooting for SPL - those you linked are kind of entry level. Entry level doesn't mean it's 'bad', it just depends on what your goals are.

Yes, you use both. It is called Dual Impedence.

Yea, Miscue...believe me I've looked at the goodies. Maybe for myself but my friend has a $400 max and I think that will do the job just fine. Thanks for the posts guys.

BTW Miscue, As for myself I have been looking into Focal Utopia's...heard any good things about them?

Those are the components that I want for myself.

                They are very good.

I'm not too particular with sub brands, there are several good ones. Personally, my first concern is that it is a musical sub. I also want it to be capable of fairly high SPL - but I'd take a sub that sounds better versus one that is somewhat louder if I had to decide. I don't care what brand or model it is, as long as it meets what I'm looking for. Also, power requirements is an issue - I prefer something efficient/medium wattage versus the power hungry monsters out there. 1000-1400W+ RMS? Holy bajeezus! 500W RMS or so I am happy with.

JLs are good subs - go for it!

I find that sub generally sound better when they are powered as close as possible to their ratings. We all know under powered subs don't sound good at all and it destroys them too. If I were you I would go with the second sub on that amp cut down the power a little maybe. the peak power is 1400w so if you's music is cranked you don't wanna fry it, maybe 750w and take it easy on the sub for a few weeks till you get a feel when too much is too much.
Also if you's just doing one sub... maybe a band pass box if you have room and/or can afford one. It will make that 12 sound great. I haven't heard anything bad about audiobahn but I have never seen one used around here either...so I'm going to give it a cautious thumbs up

Yea, we ordered the sub last night. We are probably going to go with a 1.75 cu ft sealed box and we will probably run about 650-700 into the sub. I'll let you guys know how it sounds...

PS: Miscue, you should look into Dynaudio

just wondering, for all you audio heads on ao, why does a kicker amp rated at 300watts cost as much as some 800-1000 watt amps? and what do yall think of infinity subs? I like them alot and they sound very loud but it seems there rms rating is lower than many others when the price remains higher... am I buying the brand or what?
