    virus protection

    Hey, just got a new comp and I need a new virus software..
    If you can give me advice on what virus protection software to get!..

    list the ones you like or hate and why.

    I just use the free one at www.grisoft.com
    It's called AVG Free Edtion, it's been working great for me.

      For free software I'll have to agree and suggest AVG. Otherwise if you're looking to buy, both Norton and McAfee work pretty good. I'm currently running Norton and it has a tendency to not always pick up trojans. I used to run McAfee but that was a while ago so can't say much about that. The best place to scan if you think you may be infected (but can still get online ) is Trend PC Micro Here . It has often picked up trojans and malware that Norton misses. But overall Norton is good about catching most stuff.

        but i still prefer and use norton

          Let me preface this by saying that I am a Computer Virus Researcher. Most of the big name companies are usually within .1-.5% detection rates so that means most are in the 99% range. I recommend you get on eof the total security protection packages. This includes anti-virus, firewall, anti-spyware, and anti-spam. McAfee and Norton both offer these types of packages as well as some European ones like Norman and F-Secure I believe. Thery are mostly all pretty close. Some take up more system resources and that may be a consideration depending upon the type of computer you got. Hope this helps.

              Norton Anti-virus 2004, best thing I ever pirated
              also spybot search and destroy and ad-aware will save you
