BF1942 problems

ok when i am trying to play a single player game, the game is slow as s***.

when i try to play online, the message box says "wrong version" or something like that.

my computer is like 4/5 months old, xp, and all that good stuff. so i thought that it could keep up with a two year old game.

i know it may need updates and stuff, so if any of you guys could help that would be great.

i got the offline to work, but i have to keep deleting more files. but what updates do i need for the game for online play?
