It is important to remember September 11th. And the first 5 minutes were moving and a good reminder.
However, the last 2 minutes and 45 seconds is dedicated to playing rock music while showing the US military blowing things up. Just an awsome show of force. And then they show Iraqi's cheering on American soldiers. And for some reason there is also a nuclear weapon going off in the middle of it all.
I think that it is a poorly planned video because it is glorifying war and showing nothing but the sending side of all the weapons. Respecting and admiring soldiers is one thing, glorifying destruction and desolation is another. Remembering 9/11 and respecting our soldiers who defend our nation is all fine. But this is like a music video for the US military, showing off how much destruction it can cause. Almost saying "terrorists can blow up the WTC" but we can do this:" And I find that disgusting.
Likewise, at my school, who had parents in the WTC on 9/11 (we are right outside the city and I watched first hand from the hill above our school the towers collapse). 1 year aniversary, we had a moment of silence and a memorial. We had teachers who were on ground zero (ambulance crews from NJ) on 9/11 give speeches, but two years later, nothing. It is very sad.Rooster "But such is the mentallity of the Arab people. I don't have a problem with saying "we can do this" or "we will do this". But I think that putting it in the same video as a memorial to 9/11 is distasteful. And also, think of who this video is aimed at. This isn't a film to scare terrorists or to say "we will do this to you if you mess with us". MY interpretation is that this is a film for Americans to "feel good" about even though the WTC was knocked down, we are going to give them hell and we are all so powerful, very elitist. I used to like watching big explosions and the airforce. Hell, the first job I seriously wanted was to be an airforce pilot and I did high powered rockettry till I got into paintball and couldn't finance both at the same time. But even though this film claims to no be partisan, which it isn't (partisan). It is "propoganda" (I don't like that word becase it has such bad negative conotations) in that it pushes very hard how powerful and great and awsome our weapons are, with no connection to the soldiers or to what war actually is.Rooster "But such is the mentallity of the Arab people. *sigh* See, I'm torn here. I don't think that "feeling good" is neccesarily a bad thing. I just am wary of the United States developing an elitist popular belief and a "we don't need or care about the rest of the world" attitude. And you are absolutely right. I am at heart a very cynical person, it comes from reading too much history about ANY populace that puts enormous faith into its government.Rooster "But such is the mentallity of the Arab people. That was a great video. I cant wail till i get home so i can watch it with sound.
I dont see the problem with the munitions part of it. If u ask me thats the US military being nice, pullin punches. Most of those were precision strikes. The video is a good example of a simple concept that i learned in Elementary school. Cause & Effect.
