Kids, college is for partying. Don't get arrested, and don't end up in the ER, but beyond that, college is the be-all end-all of your screaming, die-inna-ball-o-flames youth. enjoy it while you can.

College is to our generation (x-y) what high school was for the generation (well 2) ago. It's the last stop before the "real world."

do you know: the highest ratio of college alcohol death happens at Ivy league schools? Wanna know why? Because some of these kids don't know what "having fun" means. They over drink. The point of college is to learn these tolerance lines..and learning where to stop. To be around friends who will tell you that you have had enough when the time is right. College is for learning...but making friends in college is rarely done in the classroom and more often in the dorm or apartment.

College may be the best part of your life, because of the parties and everything, but you are there to get an education, so you can get a good job for yourself, do well in life. Parties are a part of college and that will never change. Have fun in college and dont go to crazy.

Shartley: Couldn't agree more with your sentiment, in that college exists to prep our youth for professional life.

However, as a recent grad, and young professional, I think that I learned a lot more outside of the classroom than in it.

Like it or not, my gen was fairly "spoiled" or taken care of if you would rather. During high school, I didn't make all of my decisions for myself. Either implicitally or directly, my parents had a large influence on what I was doing.

Once I left for college, I became the sole person responsible for my actions. No nagging to study for tests, no "you can't go out its a weeknight", no "drinking 30 odd cans of PBR will turn you into a stumbling Drunk in Public/Minor in Possesion."

Ballancing the social concerns with the (limited) academic requirements is what college is about. Not what you pick up in the two lecture you attend before finals week.

I don't know which is better, trying to prep kids for the experiences to come, or letting them figure it out for themselves. Well, I guess I do, but I do agree with you that some caution should be issued.

It's interesting that the higher up schools (Ivy league and some private schools (SC *cough*) have much higher rates of alchohol abuse. Don't have much of an explanantion, other than increased stress, finances, and social scene.

Drop a 40 oz Mickey beer bong for me, baby! Hint, look for a circular staircase...
God....I guess I was probably returning videotapes.
