    Knives?

Im looking for a good pocket knife for around $50-$75, NOT fixed blade.
What companys should I look into?

Kershaw and Buck both make a knife with an assisted opening, they seem very intresting to me...

Gerber Gator. I've had one for five years and it still kicks ***. I sharpen it once a year just for safety, but I honestly believe that even with fairly heavy use, it could go years without sharpening and still be sharp enough to do whatever you want it to do.

I have a kershaw spring assist knife, its pretty cool. The factory edge was really nice although I had to sharpen it about 2 weeks after I got it because I was using it to cut insulation and going into plywood with it. It sharpend right up though and is just like it was new. I think I paid $60 or so for it but you can find them on ebay around 40. I have a gerber gator also (found it in a stream) it is a nice knife but done expect to be opening it quickly.

They are very interesting, and are good quality. However neither has impressive steel. I have some of them and they are cool. 440c is not bad.

However I have to reccomend a better knife and in that price range it has to be a spyderco delica or endura or calypso jr. or something.

I have a plastic delica, it is not fancy, was not expensive, has no pretty finishes or bells and whistles but has fantastic VG-10 blade and a shape that was designed to be used. It weighs nothing carries like air and requires no lube or maintenance. I used in at a marina for 2 years, just a swish under the water was all the maintenence it got. It is a tight today as it was when I got it, it is just broken in. Under 50 bucks. spyderco VG-10

Also check out the benchmade griptillion or mini-griptillian. They are fancier, and top notch quality.

You never did say what size or style lock you wanted or anything.

              To end...

I sharpen it once a year just for safety, but I honestly believe that even with fairly heavy use, it could go years without sharpening and still be sharp enough to do whatever you want it to do.
You either a) don't use your knives or b)don't like sharp knives. Using knives dulls them. Even the best knives need sharpened after use. The duller you let them get, the harder it is. It was nothing for me to sharpen my knife daily or even twice a day when I was using my knife. No it didn't get dull, I didn't let it. Now I work delivery and once a week takes care of it but it depends entirely on the use. If it won't shave hair it needs sharpened.

I've got that exact knife... it's damn nice, I've never had any problems with it. Kershaw makes good knives... so does Gerber, I don't have one, but lots of experience has showed me Gerber does good things too.

I actually just tried sharpening the gerber and for some reason I cannot get a good blade on the gerber or my smith & wesson (both came very sharp from the factory), but the kershaw sharpens right up.
