Did the mechanic say how you blew your motor?
Find out. Might just need a new head gasket. If it's that you can always opt for a stronger one from HKS.
Given installing a head gasket takes time but it shouldn't be 4k. Find out what exactly is wrong with your motor.Comment

the bearing faces on the crank for #3 cylinder were scarred.
700 for a crank + labor... (new rings belts etc.)
Anyone reocommend any other AWD turbo cars? Preferably older things like Mazda GTX (is that right?) and etc.
Maybe I will go two door style (ugh) and get a gsx or tsi. mmmLast edited by Dubstar112; 11-08-2004, 03:11 PM.AO #765

Gezz how did you do that? You ran your car hard w/o checking everything first huh.
If you're looking for sleepers try a Celical All Trac Turbo. Not to many around either but again you will be limited on parts for it.
What are you doing with your Galant then just dumping it?Comment

How much did u pay for it? If it was over 1500 they have to warranty it. I can give you a number to the motor vehicle division that handles problems such as these.Comment

Uh did you read the whole thread. The motor went out on him.Originally posted by Torbonice car. I am jelous. yes very jelous. have fun with that
Hope things work out for you. Try to pursue what you can in small claims. I feel your pain. If you get it running maybe I'll send you a free HKS turbo timer or something.Comment

Thats really nice of you to offer.
My mom is on her way to the county clerk to drop off the small claims court stuff. Im suing them for one of two sums. One figures is refunding every thing I have into the car, and another is fixing the car. Both figures are mid 4g.
If I get my money back, I want to buy a TSi. If you search for TSi you'll see that I started a thread a while back about getting one. My friend unfortunatley sold the car before I could get the $$$. So I definatley want a TSi or even a GSX but they arent as common from what I understand.
How long does it take for small claims court to process everything.AO #765

Latest news:
Somone out of Albany called, and mentioned that the state had already been investigating while i was filing the last few papers. Neato, the guy mentioned that some motors may cost up to 10 grand (NEW). Im kinda puzzled by this, but maybe its for the latest version of the 4g63t from the Lancer series. No clue though, Im going to take some pictures of the engine bay empty just for reference. Monday or tuesday I have to pay 500 bucks to the mitsu dealer(the good guys) for the work they did for diagnosis(pulling the motor). The other dealer(scam guys) have taken most of the cars off thier lot, my guess is they are going to get shut down. Other than that, just a brief update.AO #765

To bad they only imported about 500 of the ST185's. There are quite a few of the ST165's, but those werent that quick.Originally posted by LeatherPantsIf you're looking for sleepers try a Celical All Trac Turbo. Not to many around either but again you will be limited on parts for it.
Mazda 323 GTX's were not built for straight line, they are ralley cars and will get smoked by just about anything in a straight line.
You need to better fill in the holes in this story. There is way to much missing information here. Did you spend your 1st 4 days with your foot to the floor? Do you have any idea what the EGT's were reading, or do you even have a gauge for that? Did a rod come through the block, did the HG blow, did it suffer from cavitation, what exactly happend to the car?
Oh, BTW, sweet find, thats one of the few tuner cars i would buy, just because they are rare and one of the biggest sleepers out there.Black/Red Tribal 2.0 BBT, Morlock board, 90* Angel Space frame, to many goodies to list. SOLD

I havent been posting all the information on here, i doubted that any one was dearly interested.
No reckless driving in the four days. I didnt drive with the pedal to the floor at all, actually i was afraid to, and I didnt want to do it in the city. Just average college boy driving- to and from class and work. The car never over heated, and in the first four days I was unable to install the turbo timer or any other guages.
It was just a spun connecting rod bearing caused by thermal breakdown, aka, the previous owner lacked oil changing qualities. - so the place that took it apart tells me. Im not an expert.
I dont want a drag car so straight line properties dont appeal to me. Decent AWD transportation. [Read, Im a hick, but I dont want a big 4wd truck, and it snows a lot here.]AO #765

Ahh, i get it now. I figured anyone who bought a Galant VR4 knows the performance potential and that was why you bought one.
If its just the botom end, have them just replace the crank and all bearings. Dont let them BS you, just tell them exactly what you want done and to do no more. IF the scoring on the cylinder walls is really that bad, then you will want it bored and honed. Does the mechanic have the whole motor torn down already?Black/Red Tribal 2.0 BBT, Morlock board, 90* Angel Space frame, to many goodies to list. SOLD

I knew the performance of this car before I bought it, which is what may have blinded me to the condition that may have been detectable if I took the right steps. I knew it was a rare car, and figured i have the chance to own it, so why not.
(edit) Decent AWD transportation, but remember Im 18 and into the tuner thing, so its gotta be able to hit a snowbank at high speed too! haha
Otherwise: In NYS the lemon law means that the dealership cannot sell a car as is. They must have some regard for what they are selling. Since they failed to communicate at a reasonable rate, they are still responsible, and now in the hands of the state.
The mechanic(Fuccillo Mitsubishi) does have it taken apart, all of their costs have been deemed accurate by the state, the final step is to have the state send an investigator to the shop to first hand make sure it is 100% accurate for damage and repair costs. No cylinder damage has been caused, just crankshaft(a new one will be needed). They did mention that a new connecting rod was needed for the number 3 cyl, and that all of the bearings would be replaced as preventive maintainance. The parts and laber to do this is relativley cheap, the high cost comes from installing the motor, and taking it out and all associated tasks. Thats about it, totalling around 4g, of which i could find a used 40-45k mileage motor for 1500, and have it installed needing no other parts for 300, being cheaper total.
However the state wont just give me a line of credit at the appropriate junkyard places and guarantee results. Therefore "new parts" will be ordered for every thing.
if somthing doesnt make sense, its a combination of a lot of thinking and poor organization skills. let me know if you want to know any thing else.Last edited by Dubstar112; 11-28-2004, 07:25 PM.AO #765
